By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Brooklyn, NY (January 10th, 2016)– Floyd Mayweather Jr., Floyd Mayweather Promotions, along with Lou DiBella and DiBella Entertainment will present a nine bout spectacular of the best of boxing entertainment at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, televised on USA Showtime, on Saturday, January 14, 2017. This reporter, bringing the best in boxing on Real Combat Media online, has been selected by Mayweather Promotions to report on this phenomenal card at ringside. The start time is TBA. The televised portion will begin at 9:30 P.M. E.S.T.
World Boxing Council World Super Middleweight champion Badou Jack (The Ripper), 20-1-2 with 12 knockouts, Las Vegas, Nevada, will fight a titular unification bout against International Boxing Federation southpaw World Super Middleweight champion James DeGale, 23-12 with 14 knockouts, London, United Kingdom. DeGale is predicted to win by 12 round majority or unanimous decision in a thrilling technical bout which could be the best 168 pound title contest in recent years, and the best bout of 2017.
World International Boxing Federation Super Featherweight champion Jose Pedraza, 22-0, 12 knockouts, Cidras, Puerto Rico, is predicted to retain his title by 12 round unanimous decision against southpaw challenger Gervonta Davis, 16-0, 15 knockouts, Baltimore, Maryland. Davis is a knockout artist, but has never been past the ninth round. If a knockout or stoppage does occur, Davis would have to accomplish it within the first eight rounds or face getting dragged by Pedraza into the championship rounds. Pedraza has gone 12 rounds and won in his last five consecutive championship bouts, and has also won a 10 rounder, so Pedraza clearly gets the technical edge, while Davis gets the knockout edge.
Amanda ‘The Real Deal’ Serrano, 30-1-1 with 23 knockouts, Brooklyn, New York, is predicted to retain her World Boxing Organization World Female Super Bantamweight title by fifth round knockout over Yazmin Rivas, 35-9-1, 10 knockouts, Torreon, Mexico. Rivas holds the World Boxing Council International female title, won in her previous bout. Depending on how hard the lethal power punching Serrano hits, Rivas could get knocked out earlier. Serrano can essentially knockout any female opponent at 135 pounds or less. She is considered to be the best female fighter in the world from super bantamweight to lightweight female weight classes. The prevailing rule is, the lower Serrano’s weight is, the more rapid and devastating the knockout. However, some of her opponents may be more experienced survivors. They will not, however, win any rounds against Amanda in the rounds they do survive.
Ievgen ‘The Ukrainian Lion’ Khytrov, the 14-0 middleweight sensation trained by Buddy McGirt Sr., is predicted to win by tenth round knockout over 16-0-1 Immanuwel Aleem of Richmond, Virginia. Khytrov has 12 knockouts in 14 pro bouts, and is a closer. Aleem drew over eight rounds in his last bout, and will probably get knocked out late in a considerable slugfest. If Khytrov matures, and keeps improving in the direction he’s going, Khytrov will be the best candidate to win the world middleweight title in the era after Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs at 160 pounds. This win is the most important bout of his career. Khytrov now has to prove his potential, and Aleem won’t go quietly.
14-0 Polish heavyweight prospect Adam Kownocki is predicted to win by third round knockout over North Carolina’s overhyped 19-1 Joshua Tufte. Kownacki is the best Polish technical fighter since Tomasz Adamek, and he has considerable heavyweight power too.
Welterweight Thomas Dulorme, 23-2, 15 knockouts, Carolina, Puerto Rico, is predicted to win by six round stoppage over 13-6 Brian Jones of Los Angeles, California in a stay busy tune up bout. Dulorme is a world class junior lightweight, and is still better off fighting at 140 pounds than 146 pounds. Jones is really a super welterweight. The extra weight could cause Dulorme to go the eight round distance. If he does, he will still win every round.
Mexican American welterweight prospect Julian Sosa, 6-0-1, Brooklyn, New York, is predicted to win by fourth round stoppage over 2-2-1 Gabriel Solario of Seattle, Washington. At 21 years of age, Sosa has popular New York City following, and is a rising prospect to watch. 7-0 welterweight prospect Irish Noel Murphy, Woodlawn, New York, by way of County Cork, Ireland, is predicted t win by sic round decision over Maxito Sainvil, 4-0-1, New York City. Murphy has the edge on experience.2016 141 pound New York Golden Glove champion Kenny Robles is predicted to win his four round professional debut and will open the exciting card.
