Hopkins KOed

Oops! Executed B-Hop Knocked Out To Floor, Should Fight Smith Again To Settle Score

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Inglewood, CA (December 18th, 2016)– Bernard ‘The Executioner’ Hopkins will turn 52 years old on February 15, 2017. On Saturday evening, December 17, 2016, B-Hop got executed by Joseph Smith Jr. in a fight Smith could not win on points. After the first round, Hopkins dominated every round, slipping punches, while landing the majority of short power punches on the inside. An accidental clash of heads between Hopkins and Smith caused a nasty cut on the left eyebrow of Smith, which was treated masterfully by cut man Stitch Duran.

Hopkins moved well for seven and a half rounds, but his career seemingly ended in the same manner as the late Joe Louis’ career did at the hands of Rocky Marciano. Hopkins, trapped along the ropes, got hit with a left-right combination, followed by a left-right combination, and was knocked backwards out of the ring. Hopkins stood up and seemed to protest at the referee in the ring, as referee Jack Reiss continued counting to 20 and counted Hopkins out. There was no push, as Hopkins tried to claim. Video replay clearly showed the aging gray whiskered Hopkins getting knocked out, through the ropes and finished. Hopkins claimed he could walk, but could not move on one of his legs. The argument was moot, as Hopkins saw referee Jack Reiss counting to 20, and B-Hop watched himself getting counted out.

The only way now for to Hopkins to settle the score with Joe Smith Jr.-if Bernard is not a coward-is to sign to fight an immediate rematch with Smith in 2017. Only then there will be no excuses. Hopkins, 55-8-2 with 32 knockouts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, got knocked out for the first time in his career. He went much like Hasim Rahman did against Oleg Maskaev in November 1999, through the ropes, backwards and out. For Smith, 23-1 with 19 knockouts, Long Island, New York, lucrative bouts with Adonis Stevenson, Andre Ward, and Sergey Kovalev await him if Hopkins bows out. Also, Hopkins, who has spent his life in the gym, should dump his ‘new’ trainer John David Jackson, and go back to his original Philadelphia trainer Naazim Richardson, who he shamefully abandoned. Look at what the training switch did to Be-Hop. His career ended in disgrace. Who’s the alien now?

Result: Joseph Smith Jr. KO 8 Bernard Hopkins (0:53)

Smith Jr. retains World Boxing Council International Light Heavyweight Title

Hopkins was knocked out backwards through the ropes to the floor, and 20 counted out

Referee: Jack Reiss. Hopkins claimed push. Video showed Smith left-right, left-right KO.
