

Ramirez Wins Olympic Bantamweight Gold for Cuba, Upsets Stevenson by Split Decision

Rio De Janeiro , Brazil (August 21, 2016)– Robeisy Ramirez of Cuba is the new 2016 Bantamweight Olympic Gold Medalist, with a three round split decision upset over Shakur Stevenson. It was the first loss for Stevenson in 25 international matches. Expected to sign shortly to turn pro with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Stevenson was offered a rematch by Ramirez, so long as he did not turn pro. Stevenson, heavily hyped before and during the Olympics, settled for the silver medal.
