Fight of the Night! Brunson Kayos Garcia in Four Round Four Knockdown Slugfest

Philadelphia, PA (August 7th, 2016)– Remember when Tyrone ‘Young Gun’ Brunson set the middleweight division on fire with 20 consecutive first round knockouts between 2005 and 2008? Brunson has 23 wins with 22 knockouts, 21 of them in the first round, and one knockout in the third round. In the ‘Fight of the Night’ at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Friday, August 5, 2016, Brunson, a native Philadelphian, took the crowd down memory lane one more time at the ripe old age of 31. Brunson, 23-6-1, and Carlos Garcia, 10-16-1, Aguada, Puerto Rico, gave the Philly crowd its money’s worth. The bout didn’t last long-but was longer than expected.
From the opening bell it was bombs away! The fighters cast defense to the wind, and swung away. Near the end of round one, Brunson landed a picture perfect overhand right to the head of Garcia, who plunged backwards to the canvas onto his back, and the crowd went wild! Garcia somehow beat the count, and the bell rang.
Round two began, and the fighters swung away with their haymakers again. A crisp left hand from Garcia sent Brunson to the floor, who beat the count. Later in the round, another Garcia power left hand sent a battered Brunson to the canvas a second time, and Brunson’s career appeared to be over. Brunson, however, beat the count, and somehow survived the round on courage alone. Brunson appeared to be badly hurt.
You never know what’s next. In round three, Brunson surprised the crowd and the corner of Garcia by reverting to a technical fight, fronting a defense, staying out of distance range, using great footwork and jab technique, and breaking Garcia down to win round three. The Garcia corner appeared bewildered and had no answer for this. Brunson, in the best shape of his career, had reverted to a ‘Plan B’-for which the Garcia corner had no answer.
As round four began, Brunson suddenly landed a monster right hook body shot to the side of Carlos Garcia. Garcia plunged to the canvas with a monstrous thud-which popped some spectators out of their seats. Garcia, who made it to all fours, remained lost in the land of alligators on the canvas, where referee Shawn Clark counted him out at 0:45 of the fourth round, in a standing ovation ending. Somebody was going to go. With this win, Brunson earned a September 16, 2016, ten round date with 14-1 Al Haymon southpaw middleweight Chris Pearson in Las Vegas. Pearson, who looked like he didn’t win a round losing a 10 round decision to 11-0 Eric Walker in Las Vegas in December 2015, has 10 knockouts in 14 pro fights.
