By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent- Ringside

Philadelphia, PA (August 6th, 2016)– Super middleweight David ‘El Bandera Roja’ Benavidez, the 19 year old brother of Jose Benavidez, went into the tenth round for the first time in his sixteen bout career. After knocking Denis Douglin down in the ninth round, glory was there for the taking by Benavidez, and he ceased the moment.

In the main event of a seven bout ESPN card at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening, Benavidez, 16-0, 15 knockouts, Phoenix, Arizona, stopped Denis Douglin, at 35 seconds of the tenth round.

The southpaw Douglin, 20-5, 13 knockouts, Marlboro, New Jersey, started strong for the first three rounds, barreling his way inside and scoring jabs for points. From the fourth round on, Douglin tried to outbox Benavidez from the outside. Benavidez knew he would have to outbox Douglin from the outside, and use height and reach advantage to break the smaller opponent down. Douglin took many power shots.

Finally, late in round nine, several power uppercuts by Benavidez rattled Douglin’s cage, and he went down. He beat the count and his legs were shot, but he was saved by the bell. As round 10 began, a powerful right hand to the head by Benavidez finished Douglin on the ropes at 35 seconds of the tenth and final round. However game, Douglin was done and no chance of surviving the round to the final bell.
