Lala, Philippines (July 28th, 2016)– The Pinoy fighter known as the ‘Maranding Nightmare’, Filipino southpaw Marlon Tapales, scored a major upset yesterday in Ayutthaya, Thailand, when he knocked out defending champion Pungluang Sor Singyu to win the World Boxing Organization World Bantamweight title. Against all odds, Tapales won a world title by knocking out the Thai fighter, in Thailand, the only way a foreign fighter can win there, an near impossible feat.

Tapales, 29-2 with 12 knockouts, Lala, Philippines, came off the canvas twice in the fifth round, and came back to drop Sor Singyu in the sixth round. Tapales had the bout won on the cards after dropping Sor Singyu twice in the eleventh round. If Sor Singyu had gotten up in the eleventh round after the second knockdown, he would have need a knockout to win. He did not.

Tapales landed a four punch combination which brought the Thai spectators in attendance to silence. An overhand right to the head, followed by two crisp left hooks to the body by Tapales, dropped the guard of Sor Singyu momentarily. An overhand left hand to the head by Tapales then sent Sor Singyu to the canvas onto his back under the bottom rope, where he was ten counted out. Sor Singyu, Bangkok, Thailand, fell to 53-4 with 35 knockouts.

Result: Marlon Tapales KO 11 Pungluang Sor Singyu, Bantamweights

Tapales wins World Boxing Organization World Bantamweight Title.

Referee: Ramon Pena.

Tapales down in fifth round. Sor Singyu down in sixth round, and twice in eleventh round.
