REAL COMBAT MEDIA UK: GEORGE GROVES VS MARTIN MURRAY- Preview & Pre-fight Press Conference Video.

By Rashid Sa’di -Real Combat Media UK Assistant Editor

Manchester, UK, (24th of June 2016)– This Saturday on the 25th of June 2016. The clash between George Groves Vs Martin Murray hits the O2 Arena as the Co-main event of the Anthony Joshua Vs Dominic Breazeale headliner in London, England.

George Grove’s last 3 opponents were David Brophy, Andrea Di Luisa and Badou Jack. In his last fight he knocked out David Brophy in the 47th second on the 4th round of their fight. Martin Murray last 3 opponents were Cedric Spera, Arthur Abraham, and Jose Miguel Torres. In his last fight Martin Murray scored a technical knockout (TKO) over Cedric Spera when the referee stopped the fight at 2:19 of the fourth round.

Martin Murray’s (33-3-1, 16 KO’s) Key’s to Victories:

Martin Murray’s key’s to victories in this fight is suitably applicable to his strength’s as a fighter. Martin must pressure Groves constantly, but he must also land body shots which will pay dividends later on in the fight.

He must constantly walk Groves down and cut off the ring. He must push George back with a constantly pumping jab, but he must throw in some feints in as well, to make himself unpredictable. Martin must also be a constantly moving target almost like perpetual motion, To keep himself from being countered as he throws his own punches.

Murray must hold the centre of the ring and avoid Groves power early. As the fight wears on, Groves seems to tire in the second half of the fight and this is where Martin’s earlier bodywork would pay dividends. In the later rounds, George has shown stamina problems. The sign’s of his fatigue in his style is his left hand dropping. Which will provide opportunities for George to counter over the top with, with his right hand.

As the fight goes into the later rounds Martin must ramp up the pressure and work on landing power shots on Groves. Martin must continue increasing pressure and landing power punches en-route to a TKO victory or a 12 round unanimous decision.

George Grove’s (23-3-0, 18 KO’s) Key’s to Victories:

George Groves route to win, is that he must establish a strong jab, but mix in feints and plenty of head movement. He must use lateral movement and set traps. George must counter with power punches off the ropes.

And use his reflexes and agility to escape Martin’s pressure and power punches. He must be looking to counter all night long. But also change his rhythm and flow by landing combinations and also throwing single shot counters. Groves must mix and show Martin Murray different looks and variety in shots and stances.

To keep Murray on his toes and off balance. He must also vary the power of his shots to keep Martin hesitant to come in so eager to throw his own haymakers. George must be extremely careful to not get caught with punches that Murray throws while keeping his left hand low. As he did against Froch and Groves must keep boxing and using lateral movement to frustrate Murray en-route to a 12 round unanimous decision.

My Prediction for the fight:

I believe that Martin Murray will win this fight via a 12 round decision or either a knockout within the championship rounds. I believe Martin Murray has competed against a higher level of opposition than Groves.

The fact that he went 11 rounds against GGG, gave Sergio Martinez a real fight which many felt that Martin won, and had a draw in a close fight against Felix Sturm. This trumps in my opinion anything that George Groves has ever done in his career.

Also the fact remains that since the second Carl Froch fight George Groves hasn’t looked the same, Groves reflexes are not the same. His punches just don’t have the same elasticity and speed that we saw in the first Froch fight.

And his last major fight against Badou Jack must not have helped his confidence. Although Groves is the younger man, Murray seems to be the fresher fighter who has accumulated less damage. So I believe Murray will pull off the win and Groves will have to go back to the drawing board.
