THE “GOAT” MUHAMMED ALI PASSED AWAY AT AGE 74

Phoenix, Arizona (June 4th, 2016)–  In deeply sad news tonight, Muhammad Ali  the charismatic, self-proclaimed King of the World, who persevered to win the heavyweight boxing title three different times – has died at the age of 74, according to credible reports.

Ali spent the past few days being treated for respiratory complications in a Phoenix hospital and died with his family tonight.

Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Clay on January 17, 1942, passed away on June 3, 2016.  Muhammad Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky and was initially known as the Louisville Slugger.   Ali initially gained fame as the 1960 light heavyweight Olympic Gold medalist.    He became the youngest man to gain the heavyweight champion in 1963, when he beat Sonny Liston.   He later joined the Nation of Islam and focused on civil rights for African Americans in the United States.  He was stripped of his belt in 1967 for refusing induction into the military during the Vietnam War (based on religious reasons).  This made Ali very unpopular with mainstream America, but very popular amongst Black Americans. He came back after taking his case and winning at the US Supreme Court in 1971.

Muhammad Ali fought and lost to Joe Frazier in the fight of the century in 1971.  He came back later to defeat George Foreman at the Rumble in the Jungle in 1974.  It was here utilized his famous Rope-A-Dope strategy.  He would gain and lose his title a couple of times before ultimately retiring at the age of 39 in 1981.   His final professional record was 56-5 with 37 knockouts.  Ali was considered to be one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.  He was famous for his captivating personality, good looks, and amazing speed.    Despite initial dislike by mainstream America, Ali was able to transform himself into a likable and admired personality throughout the world.  Ali developed Parkinson’s Disease, which took over the second half of his life.  Through this he was still very well-known and travelled often.   He passed away as a result of a respiratory infection.

Ali leaves behind 7 daughters and 2 sons.  The most famous being former women’s champion Leila Ali.
