ALISTAIR OVEREEM VS. STIPE MIOCIC IS SET FOR UFC 203
Las Vegas, NV (May 28th, 2016)–UFC 203 will be taking place in Cleveland, Ohio and headlining that event with Cleveland’s first Champ Stipe Miocic for his first title defense on September 10th against Alistair Overeem . The UFC made the announcement during the Cavilers vs. Raptors Game 5 playoff game. The venue will be Quicken Loans Arena. Stipe Miocic will be fighting #3 Alistair Overeem for the UFC Heavyweight Title.
Miocic (15-2) won the belt when he defeated Champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 198 on May 14, 2016. He beat Werdum by KO in the first round in Werdum’s home country of Brazil. As a reward, Miocic now gets a chance to defend his title for the first time in his home city.
Taking on Overeem (41-14) will be a tough task and has been on a hot winning steak as of late. Overeem has won five of his last six fights, three by KO. His most recent win came against Andrei Arlovski at UFC Fight Night Rotterdam. Overeem stunned in front of his home crowd and finished his Jackson/Winkeljohn teammate via second round TKO. Overeem has been looking for a title shot ever since he entered the UFC in 2011 and has proven that his time is now.
