Pacquiao vs. Bradley The Trilogy
By Zo Crooks, Real Combat Media Chicago Boxing Correspondent
Las Vegas, NV (April 6th, 2016)– Here we go again! Manny Pacquiao returns to the ring for what might be the last fight of his career to face Timothy Bradley for a third time live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on HBO PPV at 9pm ET.
Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs), 37, and Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs), 32, of Palm Springs, California, have already split a pair of welterweight title fights, both of which were also at the MGM Grand.
The first fight (2012) between these two ended in a controversial decision victory for Bradley, depending on who you are asking. The second fight (2014) Pacquiao cruised to a unanimous decision victory. It is only right that Pacquiao and Bradley settle in the tie breaker!
Although there have been many mixed emotions about this fight happening again, I believe this fight will be the most intriguing. Pacquiao is coming off of a one sided loss to Floyd Mayweather and Bradley is coming off of an impressive win against Brandon Rios.
Bradley made some changes in his camp when he decided to switch from his long time trainer Joel Diaz in favor of Teddy Atlas and it seems to have paid off in his favor. In his last fight with Rios you can see the subtle differences in Bradley. In the past Bradley threw wide punches that would normally leave him out of position, off balance, and open for return fire. Now under Atlas he is tightening up and throwing more straight punches without being out of position. Another thing Atlas has done with Bradley is establish a strong jab. Bradley used to throw a lazy jab and would pay for it. By throwing the jab better Bradley is now more effective controlling the outside especially when you combine that with his movement. His inside game has improved as well simply by positioning himself so he can hit while on the inside and not get hit in return.
Things have been different for Pacquiao since his defeat to Mayweather. First there was the shoulder injury. According to Pacquiao he injured in the fight and according to others around him he has been fighting with this injury since his fight with Oscar De La Hoya fight in 2008. Pacquiao had surgery to repair the torn shoulder and this will be his first fight since May. So whether he injured his shoulder or not we don’t know how he will look come fight night. Also he has been dealing with a lot of out of the ring distractions lately. In my opinion, if this is his final fight, he might have chosen the wrong opponent.
The undercard for this event is solid. Here are the bouts that round off the Top Rank card:
Gilberto Ramirez vs. Arthur Abraham
Oscar Valdez vs. Evgeny Gradovich
Jose Carlos Ramirez vs. Manuel Perez
