UPDATE: PRICHARD COLON HAS SURGERY BUT IS STILL IN A COMA

BY BAD LEFT HOOK

New York, NY (February 25th, 2016)– It has now been four months since Puerto Rican prospect Prichard Colon’s loss to Terrel Williams and subsequent emergency surgery to relieve pressure in his skull. The twenty-three-year-old recently underwent surgery to insert a catheter in his spine intended to administer a muscle relaxant.

Though he remains comatose, father Richard Colon is very optimistic about his son’s chances.

“We are grateful to all for such support from Day 1 and the endless prayers,” Richard Colon said. “The operation was different to the previous ones, but very necessary … in his recovery process. His response has been very positive, and we hope good things in the next few days. The prayers and support of all of you, that means a lot to all the family.”

The surgery was his second in two weeks.

Colon (16-1, 13 KO) pushed a torrid pace in 2015, the fight with Williams his third in just over two months. In the seventh round of their fight, Colon took a rabbit punch and told the referee he was dizzy, but continued fighting and suffered two knockdowns before some miscommunication in the corner resulted in a disqualification.

He collapsed backstage afterwards and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed the aforementioned emergency surgery.

We will keep you informed on any changes to Colon’s condition and ask, as always, that you keep him in your thoughts.
