Give ‘em Hell O’Neil Bell, Cruiserweight Champ, Murdered in Atlanta Thanksgiving Eve

Atlanta, Georgia (November 26th, 2015)– Former world cruiserweight champion was killed in a random robbery attempt just after midnight on November 25, 2015, after getting off a MARTA bus in the 1800 block on Harbin Road in his native Atlanta, Georgia, where he resided. Four suspects in a stolen PT Cruiser attempted to rob bell, who stabbed, shot in the chest and killed. Another robbery victim was shot in the hip but survived.
Originally from Jamaica, Bell, 40 years old, last fought in 2011 when he stopped Rico Cason in the first round in Virginias in what was the final bout for both combatants. Bell, whose career record was 27-4 with 25 knockouts, became undisputed World Cruiserweight champion in 2006 when he stopped Jean Marc Mormeck in the eighth round to win the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation World Cruiserweight titles to win worldwide titular recognition. The title bout took place at Madison Square Garden, with this reporter in attendance.
Bell subsequently lost his world cruiserweight titles by 12 round decision in a rematch with Mormeck in France in 2007, was stopped by Tomasz Adamek in Poland in 2008, and was stopped by fellow Jamaican Richard Hall in Florida in 2011 in another failed comeback, to fade from title contention.
