Las Vegas, NV (November 8, 2015)– Timothy Bradley Jr. and new trainer Teddy Atlas make a fearsome team in the 147 pound welterweight division. Bradley aims to take the welterweight division over, with the retired Floyd Mayweather Jr. out of the way. In the main event at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Bradley dropped Brandon ‘Bam-Bam’ Rios twice in the ninth round to regain the full version of the World Boxing Organization World Welterweight title. Bradley, now 33-1-1 with 13 knockouts, Palm Springs, California, won every round against Rios, 33-3-1 with 24 knockouts, Oxnard, California. Dehydration might have been a factor. Rios missed weight twice before making 147 pounds, and showed up in his dressing room to fight at 170 pounds, to Bradley’s 155 pounds the night of the fight. Rios retired after the bout.

Bradley landed 254 of 570 punches, a 45 percent connect ratio, and dropped Rios twice in the ninth, the bout ending with a battered and exhausted Rios on all fours, unable to rise, causing referee Tony Weeks to end the contest at 2:49 of the ninth round. Rios landed only 81 of 254 punches thrown. In other words, Bradley landed as many punches as Rios threw, spelling eventual doom. How Bradley will fair against Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman, Kell Brook, Amir Khan, Sadam Ali, Danny Garcia and other 147 pound contender notables, will depend on who Teddy Atlas choose him to defend his WBO world title against.

Two time Olympic gold medalist, southpaw Vasyl Lomachenko of Bilhorod, Dniskovskye, Ukraine, retained his WBO World Featherweight title with a tenth round knockout of Mexican Featherweight champion Romulo Koasicha of Mexico. Lomachenko, 5-1 with three knockouts, outclassed the game Koasicha, 25-5 with 15 knockouts, San Luis Postasi, Mexico. It appeared to be a close competitive bout of jab exchange until Lomachenko landed several body shots on Koasicha, who took the ten count at 2:35 of round ten on one knee. Lomachenko claimed he was having fun, but Koasicha appeared to be in the house.

In an IBF Welterweight Eliminator bout at Miccosukee Indian Gaming Resort in Miami, Florida, Kevin Bizier, 25-2 with 17 knockouts, Saint-Emile, Canada, stopped 24-0 Frederick Lawson of Ghana after the tenth round after breaking his jaw. Muhammad Ali incurred a broken jaw and lost a 12 round split decision to Ken Norton on March 31, 1973, at the Sports Arena in San Diego. Lawson, who is no Ali, was either unable or unwilling to continue with the broken jaw. Still, broken jaws in main event bouts are not common. It was Bizier’s first appearance in a bout outside of his native Canada, and he dominated, bouncing Lawson off the ropes for a knockdown in round five, and staggering him backwards a number of times with well-timed power shots to the head.
