LARA VS. ZAVECK PREVIEW

MIAMI, FL (November 11, 2015) – Cuban Super Star & WBA/IBO World Super Welterweight Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (21-2-2, 12 KOs) will be defending his WBA 154 lb. Super Welterweight & IBO World Titles against former world champion DeJan “Jan” Zaveck (35-3-0, 19 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on ESPN Wednesday, November 25 from Hialeah Park Racing and Casino in Miami with televised coverage beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
My prediction is Lara annihilates Zaveck in his house by a wide margin unanimous decision…
Here are the reasons why:
Jan Zaveck is an extremely experienced fighter however he has fought and lost to only 2 Americans throughout his career including Keith Thurman. Although, he is a seven-time national champion by way of his home, Slovenia he has primarily fought only out of Germany. In fact, his last 3 fights ended with him victorious. Zaveck acknowledges that he is an underdog coming into this fight and that this will be one of the toughest of his career. He respectfully thinks that he is on the same level as Lara. They will be going toe to toe in Lara’s house, Miami which contains the largest Cuban demographic in the US.There will be no surprises here! But then again, this IS boxing!
The Cuban boxers’ masterful style and movement in the ring in general flaunts an elegance that is not easy to imitate. It boasts vast speed and is difficult to counter. Erislandy Lara, Guillermo Rigondeaux and Yuriorkis Gamboa, embody that style.
The Cuban Boxing School – Boxing Basic Fundamentals
Cubans have studied boxing in depth, getting rid of all the unnecessary fluff and making some of the greatest modern innovations in boxing instruction. Their system allows any boxing coach to have the best boxers in the shortest period of time. Research has shown that this “system” of teaching is standardized in most of the country and the majority of gyms use the same methodology.
Apparently this instruction and methodology is administered in a specific order. They go from the most basic fundamentals to the most complex.
Here is the basic list of Lara’s Cuban Boxing School fundamentals and advantages:
- Better guard position, however Zaveck is known to have a solid defense.
- Better Displacement.
- Better at the turn & pivot.
- Lara throws straighter punches.
- Lara has superior uppercuts.
- Lara has better Hooks.
- Lara also has a better defense with body shots and much better footwork.
Lara is recognized as one of the best technical boxers in the sport hailing from the Cuban School and was an outstanding amateur for the Cuban national team before defecting. He is a decisive executor with the ability to inflict his will while taking very little punishment in return. Lara has claimed victory over Alfredo Angulo, Austin Trout, Delvin Rodriguez and Ishe Smith. He comes to this fight with back to back voluntary defenses against Delvin Rodriguez , Ishe Smith and a controversial loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
The undercard is scheduled for a few 10 rounders including: Heavyweights John Wesley Nofire 18-0-0 vs Yasmany Consuegra 17-2-0; Super Welterweights Yudel Jhonson 17-2-0 vs Daquan Arnett 14-1-0 and Bantamweights Emmanuel Rodriquez 13-0-0 vs Eliecer Aquino 17-1-1.
