In a Real combat Media interview exclusive, Fit For Life / Take It To The Top President and CEO Phillip LeGrand explained how the MMA event will take place.
Robert Brizel: “Your MMA event is sanctioned and approved in New York?”
Phillip LeGrand: “Yes it is. In terms of professional MMA event, the situation is still the same in New York. We’re waiting for the legislation to be approved. They (the MMA lobby) is trying to getting the professional MMA legislation passed. Amateurs can fight Mixed Martial Arts in New York State legally under an official sanctioning body. For amateurs, it (MMA) has a green light! We feature both Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai on our cards.”
Robert Brizel: “People both buy tickets to your shows and watch on Pay-Per-View?”
Phillip LeGrand: “Yes. I have the only approved organization in New York State which features live stream action and Pay-Per-View coverage at live events.”
Robert Brizel: “I know you are a famous world champion. The World Series of Fighting has yet to feature you.”
Phillip LeGrand: “I was an amateur MMA fighter out of Brooklyn. I held two world titles, the World Kickboxing Association World title at 155 pounds, and the World Kickboxing Association Kickboxing title at 170 pounds. I am 32 years old.”
Robert Brizel: “When did you start doing MMA events in New York City?”
Phillip LeGrand: “Take It To The Top started with its first MMA event in December 2013 in Brooklyn at The Lab Electric Warehouse in Bed-Stuyvesant, a 10,000 square foot underground party space which was the home of artists like Jay-Z and Biggie Smalls. It’s more like a party event space.”
Robert Brizel: “How did the MMA action get started?”
Phillip LeGrand: I was successful in my amateur MMA fighting career, and I noticed that I was the only fighter out of Brooklyn that was going to fight when I fought in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Long Island, New Jersey and Virginia events.”
Robert Brizel: “At what point did you say to yourself Brooklyn has bring MMA home?”
Phillip LeGrand: “When I saw nobody was taking the time to capitalize on bringing an MMA show to Brooklyn. Now we have Barclays Center. Not only am I am champion form Brooklyn, I was born and raised in Brooklyn and I live on Brooklyn Avenue.”
Robert Brizel: “What will be features on your MMA and Muay Thai card?”
Phillip LeGrand: “We will have 12 amateur bouts of three rounds duration, three minute rounds. There will be ten male bouts and two female bouts, both of the same length. We will have four bouts which are freestyle. One co-main event is at 205 pounds, while the other co-main event is at 185 pounds. Our featured event is for the vacant amateur 170 pound title. The sanctioning body is the United States Muay Thai Association.”
Robert Brizel: “The World boxing Council has professional Muay Thai world titles.”
Phillip LeGrand: “We can have that in New York because it’s Muay Thai.”
Robert Brizel: “Have you decided on a venue for event seven yet?”
Phillip LeGrand: “We will decide on a location this weekend.”
Robert Brizel: “If you could join forces with the World Series of Fighting at Foxwoods or elsewhere in a Pro-Am event, would you?”
Phillp LeGrand: “Doing a Pro-Am with the World Series of Fighting would be exciting. Foxwoods is an exciting venue for sporting events. I’m as much a fight fan as I love being a fighter! You are always looking forward to (seeing the rise of amateur and professional) up and coming fighters. The whole ability to be a fighter excites me! I love being an MMA fighter, fight promoter, and fight fan!”
