Khytrov, now 11-0, 10 knockouts, Brooklyn, New York, by way of Ukraine, was technically outworked and outboxed by the game Nick Brinson, now 17-4-2, seven knockouts, Albany, New York, for five rounds. Brinson frequently threw head and body shots in consistent combinations, punches in bunches which enabled him to win rounds on points. One judge actually gave him every round leading into the eighth and final round. However, starting in the sixth round, Brinson started to slow down, and Khytrov began landing stinging power shots to the head and the body of Brinson. By round seven, Brinson was staggering around the ring and fighting for his life from Khytrov’s come forward power attack.
Khytrov, going in for the kill against the tiring and faded Brinson, finally cut off the ring, came forward and did his damage with Brinson on the ropes. His legs gone, Brinson tried to hold and fight his way out of trouble, but Khytrov would not allow it and finished, sending Brinson down and out for good at 2:31 of the eighth round. Eferee Earl Brown, who had worked Khytrov’s right round decision win over 9-0-1 Aaron Coley at Aviator Arena in Brooklyn in April 2015, knew the fighter and correctly stopped the bout when the end had come. Despite the fact Brinson had the bout won on two of the three judges’ scorecards (70-62, 68-65, and 66-66), he had no chance of finishing the bout on his feet after Khytrov finished him. Brinson, a loser of three of his last four bouts, has never been the same fighter since Andre Dirrell stopped him in four rounds in October 2014 in Misissippi.
