JACARE VS. ROMERO IS SET
Las Vegas, NV (August 17, 2015)– For the third time, the UFC is hoping to see top middleweight contenders Ronaldo Souza (22-3 MMA, 5-0 UFC), better known as “Jacare,” and Yoel Romero (10-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) meet in the octagon.
UFC officials today confirmed a report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the two will meet at December UFC 194 event, a fight card that is shaping up quite nicely.
Souza is currently ranked No. 3 in the latest NOS Energy Drink MMA middleweight rankings, while Romero checks in just behind him at No. 4.
Featuring UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo against interim title holder Conor McGregor and UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold, UFC 194 takes place Dec. 12 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view.
Romero and Souza were originally scheduled to fight at this past February’s UFC 184 event, but “Jacare” contracted pneumonia and was forced out of the event. The bout was rescheduled for April’s UFC on FOX 15 card, but Romero suffered a torn meniscus in training and pulled out of the fight.
Souza carries an right-fight winning streak into the bout, having already downed Chris Camozzi (twice), Gegard Mousasi, Francis Carmont and Yushin Okami in his UFC run. Meanwhile, Romero has a six-fight winning streak, earning wins over Lyoto Machida, Tim Kennedy, Brad Tavares, Derek Brunson, Ronny Markes and Clifford Starks in his octagon run.
