Edgar vs. Mendes Is Set

The number two and three-ranked featherweights in the world will meet in the Octagon on Friday, December 11, as Frankie Edgar battles Chad Mendes in the main event of the Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale card in Las Vegas.

The bout, which will take place at a venue to be determined, comes one night before Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor meet for the undisputed UFC featherweight crown in the main event of UFC 194 on December 12.

FOX Sports 1 will air the TUF 22 Finale, and Mendes will discuss the bout on the Wednesday, August 26 edition of UFC Tonight (airing on FOX Sports 1 at 8pm.)

A former UFC lightweight champion, Edgar’s quest for a second divisional crown has taken him to 145 pounds, where he has won four straight over Charles Oliveira, BJ Penn, Cub Swanson and Urijah Faber. A win over Faber’s teammate Mendes could set the stage for a 2016 shot at the belt.

A three-time challenger for the world featherweight crown, former Division I All-American wrestler “Money” Mendes could put a significant dent in Edgar’s plans for a shot at the belt with a win on December 11, and with a victory, he will send a statement to two old rivals fighting for the featherweight crown the next night, Aldo and McGregor.

Stay tuned to UFC.com for venue and ticket information, as well as fight card announcements.

The Ultimate Fighter: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber, premieres on FOX Sports 1 on Wednesday, September 9.
