New York, NY (July 10th, 2015)– In a Mid-Summer night’s eleven bout prospects dream card at BB King Blues Club & Grill in New York City on Wednesday evening, July 8, 2015, undefeated super featherweight prospect Bryant ‘Pee Wee’ Cruz of Port Chester, New York, improved to 15-0 with eight knockouts with a fourth round stoppage of outmatched Martin Cardona, now 19-6 with 14 knockouts, Guadalajara, Mexico.
Cardona, acting like a frightened mouse running the marathon, spent most of the first three rounds on his bicycle trying to jab Cruz from the outside of distance range. Cruz meticulously and patiently cut off the ring like a stalking cat seeking a juicy meal, and scored with painful body shots. By round four, Cardona had no running room, and him steam was taken away by a consistent vicious body shot attack which took away his wind.
Referee Harvey Dock stopped the bout in Cardona’s corner after the fourth round, with Cardona clearly unable to continue. Cruz has made fantastic improvement and appears ready for Lou DiBella to put him into a ten rounder against a step up in opposition in the near future.
Result: Bryant Cruz TKO 4 Martin Cardona, Super Featherweights (3:00)
Referee Harvey Dock stops contest between rounds, with Cardona unable to continue.
In a unique fight on the undercard, 10-0 super welterweight southpaw Shawn Cameron of Brooklyn, New York, survived a flash knockdown in the first round to knock out game Francisco Javier Reza, 14-14, Torreon Mexico, but it wasn’t easy. Reza traded power shots from different angles with Cameron for two rounds, then lost the fight due to a bizarre change in strategy.
Reza, in a horrific impersonation of Muhammad Ali, went into his shell on the ropes and tried the rope-a-dope strategy in a vain attempt to get Cameron to punch himself out. Unfortunately, Cameron’s punches to the head and body were short and accurate, and Cameron’s nonstop combination attacks were consistent. After three rounds of playing possum, Reza, who is no Ali, went down to the canvas from his beating, knocked out. Reza was taken to the hospital, not knowing who he was or where he was. The moral of the story is: do NOT try to imitate Muhammad Ali, just fight your fight as a fighter should.
Result: Shawn Cameron TKO 5 Francisco Javier Reza, Super Welterweights (1:55)
