Bethlehem, PA (July 13, 2015)– Vito Mielicki’s GH3 Promotions andMarshall Kauffman’s King’s Promotions present a spectacular Showbox12 bout summer boxing card at Sands Casino Resort Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening, July 17, 2015, televised on USA Showtime.
In the televised main event thriller, Antoine Douglas is favored to win by late round knockout or stoppage over Istvan Szili is what could prove to be Pennsylvania’s fight of the year in 2015. The 10 round middleweight bout will be for the vacant World Boxing Council Latino Middleweight title, and the vacant International Boxing Organization Inter-Continental Middleweight title.
Douglas, now 17-0-1, 11 knockouts, Burke, Virginia, ranked 11th in the world by the World Boxing Association, and 23rd in the world by the World Boxing Council at middleweight, was seen by this reporter at ringside masterfully dismantling 16-0 Thomas LaManna in the sixth round, knocking him down three times in the round to win in Westbury, New York in his last outing this past March for the World Boxing Association Fedelatin title.
Szili, 18-0-2, eight knockouts, a Hungarian now fighting out of Basel, Switzerland, has held the Universal Boxing Federation World Middleweight title, the European (EBU-EU) Middleweight title, and the World Boxing Organization Inter-Continental Middleweight title. The European and WBO regional title bouts, which were held in Italy and Romania, ended in draws, with Szili unable to win those titles and raising questions about the quality of his opposition in Switzerland where he is based.
In a ten round preliminary bout to the main event, 12-0 super bantamweight prospect Adam ‘Mantequilla’ Lopez of San Antonio, Texas, faces off against 17-0-1 Eliecer Castillo of Higuey, Dominican Republic, for the vacant World Boxing Council Latino and vacant World Boxing Association Fedelatin Super Bantamweight titles. Lopez is favored to win by 12 round decision, as Castillo is jumping up two weight classes from super flyweight and should prove less effective at the higher weight though it is a significant opportunity bout.
Middleweight southpaw Derrick ‘Take It To The Bank’ Webster, 19-0 with 10 knockouts, Glassboro, New Jersey, and Arif Magomedov, 15-0, nine knockouts, Chekhov, Russia, will fight in a 10 round preliminary bout to the main event for the vacant World Boxing Organization NABO Middleweight title. Magomedov has decisioned Derrick Findley and knocked out Darnell Boone in his last two bouts. Magomedov is slightly favored to win by TKO, because although Webster also beat Boone, Webster got knocked down several times in Atlantic City by SabouBallogou, and got exposed as a having a weak chin against more powerful hitters. If Magomedov has no power, Webster could outpoint him.
In other bouts, Philadelphia super bantamweight prospect Emmanuel Folly is favored by second round stoppage over journeyman Gabriel Folly of Red Oak, Georgia. Samoan American heavyweight NatuVisinia of Chicago, Illinois, 11-1, is favored by six round decision in a rematch with rugged 7-10-1 Jon Bolden of New York City, who is coming off an upset win over 10-1 Ed Fountain at Sands Bethlehem this past April.
In an undercard bout scheduled for eight rounds, the match between super middleweight Jerry Odom, 13-1, 12 knockouts, Bowie, Maryland, and Texas southpaw Sam Clarkson, 14-3, presents a unique conundrum. Clarkson is a full-fledged light heavyweight who scored an impressive upset eight round decision win over world ranked contender Cedric Agnew in Westchester in his last bout. Despite any contractual agreement, Clarkson cannot get down to 168 pounds or less. Odom should not fight Clarkson at 175 pounds, as Odom would give too much strength and power away to Clarkson in the higher weight class.
Pennsylvania super welterweight Ricky Nuno is favored by decision over debuting Tim Kunkel in a four rounder. Philadelphia lightweight prospect Samuel Teah by four round decision over Ray Velez of Troy, New York. Minnesota middleweight contender Rob Brant is favored to win by six round decision. Lightweights Oscar Bonilla of New Haven, Connecticut is favored to win by four round decision over Bienvenido Diaz of the Dominican Republic. Light heavyweight contender Lavern Harvell, 14-1, Atlantic City, New Jersey is favored to win by six round decision. Philadelphia light heavyweight Christopher Brooker, 3-0, and 1-0-1 Uzbek fighter Botirsher Obidov will open the event in a four rounder which will end in a decision which could go either way.
