LARA VS. RODRIGUEZ PREVIEW – “Dreamz in da City”

Chicago, IL (June 11, 2015)– The PBC returns to the Windy City Friday June 12th as the WBA World Junior Middleweight Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” takes on Delvin Rodriguez. According to many, this is supposed to be an easy fight for Lara. Getting by Rodriguez is not enough, he must do so in spectacular fashion! This is more than just a voluntary defense for Lara.
The American Dream is here! Chicago has embraced the Cuban boxer with open arms. Chicago is a very culturally diverse city and Lara can feel right at home here. Yesterday he threw out the first pitch at the White Sox Game. Lara is fitting right in. At the press conference he looked very composed and ready to go.
One thing that Lara has learned about sports in America is that Dreams can become nightmares! Since defecting here from Cuba in 2008 Lara has taken on some great competition and has come up on the short end of a couple of fights that should have went his way. Lara took on Paul Williams in 2011 in Atlantic City. Lara dominated the fight from start to finish only to watch Williams hand raised with the decision. Then in 2014 Lara fought Canelo Alvarez in a non title match. That too ended in a controversial decision with two judges having it close at 115-113 for Alvarez and the third judge had it 117-111 also for Alvarez. The decision was a controversial one, with many disputing the result. In the fights with Williams and Alvarez, Lara boxed beautifully and still came up short on a decision after deserving the victory in both bouts.
Lara is one of the most feared fighters out there today. He will be looking to share the ring with other big names like Gennady Golovkin, Demetrius Andrade, Miguel Cotto, Alvarez (again) and so on. First he has to get past Rodriguez. Lara has the skill set to compete with anyone in the division and more. His slick Cuban style of fighting will give any fighter fits! Friday night his skills will be on full display at the UIC Pavilion.
