“May-a-veli The Don Skilluminati: The 7 Day Theory”
“Day Two – Life of an Outlaw”
Editorial By Zo Crooks, Real Combat Media Chicago Boxing Correspondent
Las Vegas, NV (April 30th, 2015)– Sports and hip hop run parallel to each other. Each are linked to the other sharing a common bond. Athletes and artist share the same stage in life. Who is the latest, the hottest, the most respected, the most appreciated entertainer today? We also rank them in accordance to who we feel is the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time). Names such as Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Rakim, Nas, Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Biggie, Tupac and more are mentioned when you think of the Greatest. The question now is “who is T.B.E (The Best Ever)”?
Floyd “Money” Mayweather has accepted the label of T.B.E! The undefeated champion (47-0 26KO) from Grand Rapids, MI. looks to continue his dominance as T.B.E. Saturday May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV against Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (57-5-2 38 KO).
There are many times in which my friends and I would sit around and debate who is the greatest and or the best in boxing. Sugar Ray Robinson or Muhammad Ali would of course always get the nod, but when we break down the technical skills of fighters Floyd would always be at the top. The same can be said with hip hop. I would give the nod of the G.O.A.T to Rakim and consider Tupac as the best overall. In my opinion, because I have one, Tupac and Floyd share that common link. They both were considered outlaws! Hate em or love em with no in-between. You anticipated their next move while appreciating their presence while others prayed for their downfall hoping that they would lose.
“Extreme at times, blinded by my passion and fury. Look at me laugh at my competition flashing my jewelry!”….Tupac
Sounds familiar? Floyd Mayweather is known for his hard work and dedication to the sport of boxing. His work ethic is considered extreme! Floyd has dedicated his life to the sport which has rewarded him as being the highest paid athlete in the world today. He deserves every accolade, award and praise that he is given. On the flip side of that he is a victim of his own success, if you want to call it that. He is harshly criticized for his flashy lifestyle. The cars, the mansions, the women, the jewelry are all on display. Because of the “Money” lifestyle that Floyd lives he is often picked apart by the public, the media, even his fellow athletes. Floyd once said, “Some pay to see me win, some pay to see me lose, but they all pay”.
Today the sports biggest attraction and cash cow is the smartest man in the business. He is doing record breaking numbers consistently! Every move in and out of the ring is calculated and executed with precision.
“Scarred but still breathin. Believe in me and you could see the victory. A warrior with jewels, will you picture me?”…. Tupac
As much as most want to hate him you must admire his brilliance. Money Mayweather has amassed a fortune off of being an outlaw/villain. “Money” hit the scene in 2007 when Floyd took on Oscar De La Hoya. Oscar was the main attraction of the sport at the time. HBO premiered a series entitled “24/7” to give an in depth look at the fighters behind the scenes leading up to the fight. Floyd “Money” Mayweather was the star of the show with his brash, bad boy persona. That fight went on to break records with PPV Sales of 2.4 million. “Money” was created to sell fights. In movies there wouldn’t be a good guy without the bad one.
Going into Saturday’s fight with Pacquiao, the public is building the hype of “Good vs Evil”. However Floyd’s demeanor has been rather low key. No trash talking. No pre-fight antics. No pre-fight paties and barbercues. Just an extreme focus. Money Mayweather doesn’t feel the need to sell the fight because he feels that the fight sells itself. In reality this is the real Floyd Mayweather that many doesn’t see, but the public is yearning for the trash talking, boastful, arrogant character that many are accustomed to seeing. If he shows the more mature and humble side of himself he is considered scared and phony. He is damned if he do and damned if he don’t. Life of an outlaw!
