Fatuma Zarika RCM Interview: Calls Out Cindy Serrano For 10 Round UBF Title Rematch

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

In an exclusive interview with Real Combat Media after fighting Universal Boxing Federation World Female Lightweight champion Cindy Serrano of Brooklyn, New York, to a six round draw in a non title bout March 28, 2015, at Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York, Fatuma Zarika called out Cindy Serrano for a ten round world title rematch.

Zarika, age 30, now 24-9-2 with 14 knockouts, Nairobi, Kenya, is a former Women’s International Boxing Federation Bantamweight and Super Bantamweight world champion.

Real Combat Media: “Tell me about this fight, Fatuma. How were you able to box Cindy Serrano so well? She came in thinking this was an easy fight, based on your previous fights. What did you do to train for this fight differently?”

Fatuma Zarika: “I know my fight because I have a lot of big fights (experience). I have fought with big name fighters. I want to fight Cindy Serrano for her title now.”

Real Combat Media: “Are you calling out Cindy Serrano for a shot at her world title? For a rematch?”

Fatuma Zarika: “Yes, because if Cindy did win this fight (which we just fought) I didn’t see it.”

Real Combat Media: “It’s your view Fatuma you won this fight with Cindy Serrano fair and square?”

Fatuma Zarika: “Yes, I won the fight.”

Real Combat Media: “Were there any punches that Cindy threw which frightened you in any way? Was there anything Cindy threw which hurt you in any way?”

Fatuma Zarika: “No, not at all.”

Real Combat Media: “Do you think Cindy Serrano will bring anything new to the table in the next fight you haven’t seen?”

Fatuma Zarika: “Cindy will have to train harder for our next fight. I have 35 fights experience, so Cindy has to train harder.”

Real Combat Media: “You are going to train for a rematch?”

Fatuma Zarika: “Of course. In the rematch, I’m going to knock her out.”

Real Combat Media: “In your fight with her, where did you come up with the idea to move forward on Cindy?”

Fatuma Zarika: “I saw her in the first round, and I wanted to see what she would show me.”

Real Combat Media: “You had a very good defense. How did you manage to pick off so many of Cindy’s punches?”

Fatuma Zarika: “My movement.”

Real Combat Media: “You were constantly moving forward, and moving your head. Do you think your constant movement confused Cindy a lot?”

Fatuma Zarika: “Yes.”

Real Combat Media: “Why?”

Fatuma Zarika: “Cindy didn’t draw me. I won. This was my first time boxing with her.”

Real Combat Media: “So, to summarize this interview, you are interested in fighting Cindy Serrano in a rematch for her Universal Boxing Federation World Lightweight title in a rematch later this year.”

Fatuma Zarika: “Yes, I’d love to (fight her again). For 10 rounds.”

Real Combat Media: “Alright, we’re going to see if Cindy Serrano accepts your rematch challenge.”

Fatuma Zarika: “Thank you.”

Real Combat Media: “Thank you.”
