TRIPLE CROWN WITH MCJOE ARROYO, ROCKY MARTINEZ AND CHELO GONZALEZ ON DECEMBER 20 AT EL SAN JUAN RESORT AND CASINO IN PUERTO RICO
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO– With the International Boxing Federation (IBF) elimination bout between super flyweight contenders McJoe Arroyo and Mark Anthony Geraldo, and the return to the ring of former world champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez and world title challenger Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez, PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presents Triple Crown as part of the series Noche de Campeones DIRECTV, to take place on December 20, at the International Ballroom of El San Juan Resort and Casino in Isla Verde, Carolina, Puerto Rico, which will be broadcast on DIRECTV Pay Per View.
“We are back to El San Juan Resort and Casino with this great show, which McJoe Arroyo go for the opportunity to fight for the world title, but also included two-time former world champion Rocky Martinez and former world title challenger Chelo Gonzalez in their return to the ring and looking to be in the rankings of their respective weights,” promoter Ivan Rivera, president of PRBBP, said.
In the main event, 2008 Puerto Rican Olympian McJoe Arroyo (15-0, 8 KOs), ranked number two by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in the super flyweights (115 pounds), will face the Filipino Mark Anthony Geraldo (31-4-3, 14 KOs), who is ranked #9 by the IBF at 115 pounds. Arroyo, a bronze medalist at the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships, has wins over David Quijano by decision in April and over former world champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez by TKO in June, 2014. Geraldo has also fought twice this year, scoring victories over Elmar Francisco (KO) and Efrain Perez (UD) in April and July, respectively.
Meanwhile, former junior lightweight WBO, Rocky Martinez (27-2-2, 16 KOs), returns to the ring after a year of inactivity when he faces an opponent to be determined for a 135 pounds regional title. Martinez has not fought since November 9, 2013, when he lost the WBO junior lightweight title against Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia.
In another bout, former world title challenger Chelo Gonzalez (22-1, 17 KOs), will fight against an opponent to be announced for a regional title at the lightweight division. In his last fight, on May 11, 2013, Gonzalez lost to then-WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns after a wrist injury did not allow him to continue for the tenth round.
