UFC 178 wasn’t a card filled with star power but it made up for it in stoppages and controversy.

Las Vegas, NV (September 28, 2014)– The biggest controversy since maybe the boxing drama of Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo (2004) when Diego Corrales spit out his mouth piece a few times to get some extra time after being knocked down and went on to win the fight via TKO. Tim Kennedy had Yoel Romero on the verge of being knocked out when the bell rang in the second round. When the bell rang to start the third round, Yoel Romero simply was not ready to continue and his corner stayed in which gave Yoel an additional 30 seconds. This was enough time for Yoel to mount a comeback in the third round and knock out Tim Kennedy.
The fans erupted loudly with boo’s, while Yoel when interviewed was specifically asked about the time delay. He didn’t address the question, but responded with his love of God and the United States of America.
According to the Nevada Athletic Commission Rule as quoted by Tim Kennedy “NAC 467.728 If a combatant fails or refuses to resume competing when the bell sounds…the referee shall award a decision of TKO.”
Demeterius Johnson (21-2-1) defends his UFC Flyweight title for the 5th straight time by defeating Chris Cariaso (17-6) by a Kimura submission victory.
Conor McGregor (16-2) looked amazing and defeated Dustin Poirier(16-4) with a barrage of punches by TKO stoppage in less than 2 minutes. The Irishman is expected to challenge for the title in his next fight against the winner of Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes.
