Schleswig-Holstein, Germany (September 28th, 2014) – Paul Smith (35-4, 20KOs) became a victim of hometown cooking, losing a horrible 12 round unanimous decision to Arthur Abraham (41-4, 28 KOs) and therefore hanged on to his WBO super middleweight strap. Abraham started up fast, winning the first few rounds by taking the fight to the Englishman.
The fight changed direction for Smith in the middle rounds when he began to go the body, thus slowing down the adoptive German fighter, who was born in Armenia. Smith cruised through the second half of the fight as he kept the action in the middle of the ring, connecting on the more significant punches. The scores were 119-109 and 117-111 twice. Germany, where Abraham has lived for almost 20 years is where the fight took place. There have been many controversial decisions in the past in Germany, this was one of the worst.
