Richard ‘The Boxing Prophet’ Solomon’s Picks Of the Week
![]()
Richard’s love of boxing preceded his love of solid food. Doctors report he came out of his mother’s womb throwing a jab. As a child he would only ever count from 1 to 10, and his favorite superhero didn’t wear a cape- he wore leather gloves that were A Thrilla In Manila. With his uncanny ability to predict fights, his parents gave up dreams of him becoming President and set their sights higher: Boxing Prophet.
His claim to fame: telling the whole world in Feb of 1990 that James Buster Douglas was going to beat Mike Tyson. Through jeers and laughs he stuck to his prediction. Rich was an overnight sensation. A folk hero in his town. The prophet was born. His parents wept.
For every 10 fights Richard predicts – he guarantees 8 out of 10 are correct. He prides himself on not only picking the winner of the fight, but also whether it’s by decision or knockout – being so bold as to even pick the exact round.
Richard went to Adelphi University and holds a Master’s degree in Special Education. He teaches preschool children with learning disabilities and special needs. His kids are fighters and Richard genuinely appreciates and nurtures that spirit in them.
Richard started his career on Adelphi radio in a weekly sports talk show and went on to co-host other boxing radio shows during his career. He is now the RCM Boxing Radio Co-Host since April 2013.
DANNY GARCIA VS. ROD SALKA
JARROD FLETCHER VS. DANIEL JACOBS
LAMONT PETERSON VS. EDGAR SANTANA
Danny Garcia is one of Boxing’s very best. He packs plenty of grit, prodigious skill and a powerful punch into a lean 140 pound frame. He rose to my Pound for Pound list by knocking out Amir Khan and stayed there by pulling off the upset win over Lucas Matthysse last year. Make no mistake about it, he is the best Junior Welterweight in the world. However, despite his elevated status, Garcia isn’t fighting one of the world’s top fighters Saturday night. Instead of fighting say Lamont Peterson, he is taking on Rod Salka. Salka is a soft punching lightweight who even hardcore Boxing fans have never heard of. By the way, Lamont Peterson is also on the same card as Garcia this weekend. he will be facing Edgar Santana. Sure, Santana has won three bouts in a row, but let’s keep it real. At best, he is a journeyman.
In the opening bout of the triple header, Daniel Jacobs will battle Jarrod Fletcher. Truth be told, this card stinks. Part of me doesn’t even want to preview and make picks for this show. But, it’s my job. can’t let down my peeps!!!! Salka is not even ranked in the top 50 at Lightweight and now he is facing Garcia in a 10 round non title bout at a maximum weight of 142 pounds. I am on the record as saying that Mauricio Herrera got robbed against Garcia. Maybe he needs a tune up to regain some confidence. He’ll get it. Salka will stick and move and do his best not to slug it out with Garcia. But Garcia will adjust and simply wear down the smaller man. As for the other two fights, look for Lamont Peterson to put on a Boxing clinic against Santana. The toughest fight to call this weekend is Daniel Jacobs vs. Jarrod Fletcher. The kid from Australia has power and I have never been sold on Jacob’s chin. However, he is from Brooklyn. I stick with my homeboys always and forever!!!! Without further or due, here are my final picks: Danny Garcia over Rod Salka by a 7th Round TKO, Lamont Peterson over Edgar Santana by a 10th Round TKO and Daniel Jacobs over Jarrod Fletcher by a 9th Round TKO.
