The Ukrainian Lion is Back! Broadway Boxing Returns ToBB King Club on April 10

New York, NY (April 5, 2014)– Rising light welterweight prospect Erick Bone of Manabi, Ecuador, will make his American debut in an eight rounder in the main event of an eight bout card at BB King Blues Club and Grill on Thursday evening, April 10, 2014, promoted by Lou DiBella Promotions. The Ukrainian Lion, middleweight Ievgen Khytrov, will appear in the preliminary bout to the main event in a six rounder.
Bone, 13-1 with seven knockouts, will face rough tough southpaw Puerto Rican light welterweight veteran Francisco ‘El Gato’ Figueroa, 20-6-1 with 13 knockouts, now hailing from Bronx, New York. At 5’6”, Figueroa will have to take chances to get inside on Bone, and will pay the price for it in a lengthy technical bout. Look for Bone to win by eight round decision or stop Figueroa between rounds six and eight in an entertaining bout.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, Ievgen Khytrov, ‘The Ukrainian Lion’, the former Ukrainian Olympian who has been taking the middleweight division by storm with trainer Buddy McGirt in Brooklyn, New York, will look for his fourth win against 4-2 Jas Phipps of Killeen, Texas, in a six rounder. To Phipps’ credit, Khytrov will be the fourthunbeaten fighter in a row and fifth overall. However, Khytrov power hits like a mother, and will knock out Phipps within three rounds, if the bout lasts that long. With McGirt calling the shots, the bout probably won’t go two before Khytrov knocks Phipps out. Khytrov is already demonstrating hitting power like a world class middleweight. Could this be the middleweight or super middleweight Lou DiBella is looking for to succeed Sergio Gabriel Martinez? It could be. Only time will tell, but the early line says yes with Khytrov.
Promoter Lou DiBella made big boxing headlines earlier this week when it was announced DiBella entertainment and New Legend Boxing announced the co-promotional signings of unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Frank Galarza, and unbeaten junior lightweight prospect Bryant ‘Pee-Wee’ Cruz. DiBella also signed five time southpaw Ukrainian middleweight national amateur champion Ivan Golub. Pee-Wee Cruz, 9-0, five knockouts, Port Chester, New York, will appear on the BB King card in a six rounder at super featherweight against trial horse Wilshaun Boxley before Kytrov’s bout. Boxley has gone the distance 11 times in pro bouts, including a draw with John (Action) Jackson.
Besides Khytrov and Cruz, five other unbeaten DiBella prospects, all future stars, will appear on the BB King card: 6-0 light welterweight prospect Louis Cruz faces Tony Walker in a six round light welterweight bout; 7-0 featherweight prospect Kiun Evans faces Pedro Toledo in a six rounder; 2-0 welterweight Ryan Gamache, a nephew of Joey Gamache, will fight Ryan Picou in a four rounder; and in four rounders, 2-0 light welterweight Shmuel Pagan will fight veteran James Gooding, and 3-0 super middleweight Junior Younan will fight Dustin Parish, who is coming off a knockout win of Jaimes Orosco. Gooding drew with DeMarcus Rogers in a bout in Memphis earlier this year.
Advanced tickets for Broadway Boxing at BB King Blues Club and Grill are $125, $100, $75 and $55. Seats sell out quickly at this venue. For more information, contact DiBella Entertainment at 212-947-2577 during business hours 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on weekdays.
