Manny Pacquiao defeats Timothy Bradley via UD
By Syl Peterkin, RCM Correspondent
Las Vegas, NV (April 13th, 2014)– Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) defeated Timothy Bradley Jr (31-1, 12 KOs) via unanimous decision. The judges’ score cards showed a 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112, as Pacquiao regained his welterweight world title. Bradley utilized a differing strategy (from his previous win) by going for the knockout. Questionable considering Bradley hasn’t had a knockout win since 2007. This strategy produced unfavorable results as this played right into Pacquiao’s hands. This allowed Pacquiao to have a more stationary target to hit. Bradley also claimed a possible calf injury in the first round as to why he has limited mobility. Freddie Roach, the coach of Pacquiao, stated that Pacquiao was a bit sloppy but he was happy with the overall performance of his fighter. After the fight, Pacquiao stated that he will fight for two more years.
So what is next for both fighters? Bradley has suffered his first defeat and is now left with rethinking his goals. Possibly moving up in weight and taking on Canelo Alvarez. For Pacquiao, Mayweather will always be in the conversation but this is unlikely to happen as Mayweather is ducking him. A possible super fight with Canelo Alvarez would also be interesting. We shall see as Mayweather is next fighting Marcos Maidana.
