Comeback Fighter of the Year: James Kirkland
James had a rough start to 2013. He was without a promoter or trainer, he was arrested for assault and was a sparring partner. However, at the end of 2013 he came back strong and is now among the top Junior Middleweights in the world again. James reunited with his former trainer Ann Wolfe, joined 50 Cent’s SMS Promotions and knocked out undefeated Junior Middleweight Glen Tapia. Check out this great fight below.
Trainer of the Year: Robert Garcia
Robert orchestrated an outstanding game plan with his fighter, Marcos Maidana dominating undefeated Adrien Broner by winning a unanimous decision last month. Adrien was a heavy favorite going into this fight and was considered by many, the future of boxing.
Upset of the Year: Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Abner Mares
Abner Mares at the time, was considered one of the pound per pound greats in our sport. He was coming off a dominating TKO victory over Daniel Ponce De Leon. In a fight that was supposed to be an easy fight for Mares, Jhonny Gonzalez shocked the world by knocking Abner Mares down twice and winning by TKO in round 1 in August of 2013.
