New York, NY (December 12th, 2013)– New York City fight fans, here it is! Serious heavyweight action is coming to Brooklyn this weekend, courtesy of Sal Musumeci’s Final Forum Boxing. The Shaolin Fist, Derric Rossy, will appear in the eight round main event at PacPlex on Saturday evening, December 14, 2013, against veteran Jonte‘Rocky Steady’ Willis. For fight fans who have never been there before, PacPlex is Brooklyn’s largest sports, recreation and educational complex. The focus of PacPlex is to enhance the lives of individuals and families in the Brooklyn community.
Rossy, age 33, now 28-7 with 14 knockouts, Medford, New York, has a 50 percent knockout ratio when he wins. Rossy is also a very fine technical boxer, having reached the finals of the 2013 London Prizefighter tournament by winning a number of decisions, and finishing runnerup to Audley Harrison. This reporter was ringside to interview Rossy when he won his last eight round decision over Livin Castillo in Atlantic City in 2012/.This reporter was also ringside in 2011, when Rossy came off the canvas in the fourth round and showed a great deal of courage and heart when he ‘almost’ won the USBA heavyweight title in 2011 at Resorts before getting stopped late in the twelfth round by then champion Maurice Harris.
With Rossy, a game plan is usually part of the attack strategy. A thinking fighter, Rossy’s approach to each bout appears to be as important as his ability. Rossyoutboxed 26-1 Carl David Drummond in 2009 over ten rounds in 2009, but avoided boxing Eddie Chambers by moving around the edges of the ring in losing an IBF eliminator at Bally’s in 2011. Willis, now 6-7-1 with three knockouts, Tacoma, Washington, is an underestimated veteran. His upsets include victories over 16-2 Art Binkowski, and 19-11 Gary Gomez. Willis has drawn with 10-1 David Long, and recently lost a majority eight round decision to world ranked Eric Fields. Earlier this year, Willis lost a disputed 10 round split decision for the USBO heavyweight title to Joshua Tufte. Willis can fight, and he’s tough, having gone eight rounds with world ranked Andy Ruiz Jr. If Rossy cannot take Willis out, what should result is an exciting eight round power punching slugfest, which Real Combat Media predicts Rossy will win in an action packed thriller.
On the undercard, unbeaten but unknown heavyweight prospect Natu ‘The Truth’ Visinia of Lakewood, California, looks to make it ten consecutive wins against New York City’s 6-7 Jon Bolden.
In an eight round Heavyweight bout, NatuVasinia (9-0, 8 KO’s) of Lakewood, CA battles Jon Bolden (6-7, 5 KO’s) of New York, NY.
Unbeaten cruiserweight prospect Keith Tapia of Santurce, Puerto Rico will also look for his tenth consecutive win in a six rounder against fight 4-9-1 journeyman Tobias Rice of Macon, Georgia. Another six rounder will feature 8-0 light welterweight Rafael Hernandez of Grand Rapids, Michigan against 10-17-1 Dedrick Bell of Memphis, Tennessee. Bell holds two recent victories over Rodney Freeman this year, knocking out Freeman in the rematch in Memphis in May 2013.
Upset minded heavyweight YtaloPereraof Ecuador, 5-1, 3 knockouts, Ecuador, who upset 5-0 Evan Neddof Aruba at Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York, will fight 1-4 Tyrone Gibson of Duluth, Minnesota.
Featherweight Phillip Moreno of Brooklyn makes his pro debut against 0-2 Nathan Seelye of Minnesota in a four rounder.
Irish lightweight Allan Phelan (3-2, 3 KO’s) of New York via Newbridge, Kildare, Ireland, looks for his fourth consecutive knockout when he squares off against 1-6 veteran TomiArchambault in a four rounder. Archbault stopped 3-0 Ronnie Peterson in his third pro bout. Phelan has knocked out all three of the opponents he has faced in 2013: Juan Guzman, Jimmy Small, and Benjamin Burgos.
