NABF Champ Paulie Malignaggi Interview: I Will Beat Marcos Rene Maidana!
By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent
In an exclusive interview ringside with Real Combat Media, North American Boxing Federation Welterweight champion Paulie ‘Magic Man’ Malignaggi says he would beat WBA World Welterweight champion Marcos Rene Maidana if given the chance. Both Malignaggi and Maidana have fought Adrien Broner and done well. Can Paulie beat Maidana? The bout could happen in 2014, as Maidana has taken Broner’s WBA crown.
Real Combat Media: “Would you fight Marcos Rene Maidana if you got the chance?”
Magic Man: “It’s all about the money,”
Real Combat Media: “Paulie, can you beat Marcos Rene Maidana?”
Magic Man: “Yeah, absolutely.”
Real Combat Media: “Where would a bout between you and Maidana take place?”
Magic Man: “Barclays Center in Brooklyn would be a great venue for it.”
Real Combat Media: “Marcos Maidana is a power hitter. How would you fight him?”
Magic Man: “I will fight Maidana intelligently. He’s a very tenacious fighter.”
Real Combat Media: “What did Adrien Broner do wrong with Maidana you can do right?”
Magic Man: “Broner wasn’t busy (throwing a lot of punches).”
Real Combat Media: “What game plan will you use to defeat Maidana?”
Magic Man: “Maidana threw a lot of punches. When you are not (available as) the target, the guy throws less punches. There are less angles, and you throw more punches yourself.”
Real Combat Media: “What special preparations would you make to fight Maidana?”
Magic Man: “Nothing special. I just got to be myself. Maidana’s a great fighter. So am I!”
Real Combat Media: “Maidana scored two convincing knockdowns of Broner, accomplishing amazing (hand speed with power) penetration through Broner’s defenses.”
Magic Man: “You gotta counter Maidana. You have to find a way to chop him down and break down his enthusiasm.”
