Middleweight Patrick Majewski Interview: I’m Ready For Curtis Stevens!

In an international Real Combat Media exclusive, Polish middleweight contender Patrick Przemek ‘The Machine’ Majewski, ranked 23rd in the world at middleweight by the World Boxing Council, talked about his upcoming middleweight bout with Curtis Stevens, ranked 14th in the world by the IBO and third in the United States by the USBA. Stevens, stopped in the eighth round of his WBA World Middleweight title bout with Gennady Golovkin, will be fighting again less than 90 days after his loss. Majewski, eschewing confidence, stated with confidence he believed he would win over Stevens in their upcoming bout.
US NBC Sports Network will host an exciting eight bout card of boxing at Resorts International Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Friday evening, January 25, 2013. Patrick ‘Machine’ Majewski of Radom, Poland, now fighting out of Atlantic City, will get the opportunity of a lifetime when he fights a ten round middleweight bout in the main event against Curtis ‘Showtime’ Stevens of Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York.
Majewski, now 21-2, 13 knockouts, a tall fighter at six feet tall, could get a middleweight world title shot later in 2014 against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Peter Quillin, Martin Murray or Sergio Gabriel Martinez if he wins this critical middleweight division crossroads bout against the shorter 5’7” Stevens, 25-4, 18 knockouts.
Real Combat Media: “Are you excited about this pro opportunity?”
Patrick Majewski: “I’m so excited. It’s a great opportunity! Curtis Stevens (just) fought (Gennady Golovkin) for the world title. It’s a big challenge for me.”

Patrick Majewski: “Yes! It’s kind of my home town.”

Real Combat Media: “Will your bout be seen in Poland?”
Patrick Majewski: “The fight is on NBC Sports. I don’t know if the bout will be on Polsat Polish TV but I believe (I’m hopeful it will be) so.”
Real Combat Media: “How is your training and physical conditioning going with Arnold Robbins?”
Patrick Majewski: “I am always training very hard and running very hard. We are focused on the boxing training. I do believe in conditioning and running. I need to balance this out for the boxing training.”

Real Combat Media: “Patrick have you studied footage on Curtis Stevens?”
Patrick Majewski: “Yes, including his fight with Gennady Golovkin and a couple of other bouts. I’ve also studied some footage on some other middleweights like Roman Karmazin.”
Real Combat Media: “Are you a stronger fighter than Curtis Stevens?”
Patrick Majewski: “This we can settle in the ring when we get there./ Right now, Right now I’m focused on my game plan. I’m taller (than Stevens) with a better (longer) reach (advantage) so I’m gonna use them.”

Real Combat Media: “you have experience fighting at Resorts in Atlantic City. Is it a large ring?”
Patrick Majewski: “It’s a medium sized ring (at Resorts usually), but I cannot predict what kind of ring they are going to put up this time. It could be a large ring, I’m not predicting.”

Real Combat Media: “Stevens is a short fighter. How does this factor benefit anybody who fights him? You saw the Stevens fight with Golovkin?”
Patrick Majewski: “Stevens counterpunches good, and he’s intelligent in the ring. I am preparing for this fight with a plan A. Sometimes you can only do what your opponents let you do. I’ve got to dictate my plan in the ring, and that’s how we are going to fight Stevens.”
Real Combat Media: “Stevens just lost to Gennady Golovkin, and now he’s doing a quick turnaround to take the fight.”
Patrick Majewski: “Gennady Golovkin is a world class fighter, one of the best fighters pound for pound today. I cannot look at my bout with Stevens in this way. I’m just going to prepare my best to defeat Stevens.”
Real Combat Media: “How’s the sparring ocing along? Are your sparring partners similar in size and ability to Curtis Stevens?”
Patrick Majewski: “I am sparring with a couple of shorter guys. One of my sparring partners is (super middleweight prospect) Isiah Seldon. Isiah is my size. We found the sparring partners we needed. We have some shorter guys. There are not many sparring partners like Curtis Stevens, who is short yet (hits) explosive. I cannot find a sparring partner who is a replica of Stevens. We have come as close as we can in our preparations.”
Real Combat Media: “Patrick, would you like to fight for a world title in 2014?”
Patrick Majewski: “Yes, but first I have to fight Curtis Stevens. He is in my way. You’ve got to deserve it (a world title shot as a fighter). I’m working my way up.”
Real Combat Media: “Have you taken a look at the Super WBA-IBO World Middleweight title bout between Gennady Golovkin and Osumanu Adama, and the WBA regular World Middleweight title bout between Martin Murray and Anthony Fletcher, on the boxing card coming up on February 1, 2014, in Monte Carlo,. Monaco?”
Patrick Majewski: “Very interesting fights! GGG is always fighting great fighters in the ring. (Against) Osumanu Adama, there’s going to be a lot of fireworks.”
Real Combat Media: “Will there be fireworks in the ring when you fight Curtis Stevens?”
Patrick Majewski: “{There’s) Got to be. Stevens is explosive. I’m gonna bring it-so the bout will be full of fireworks!”
Real Combat Media: “In one of your recent bouts in Atlantic City covered by this reporter (in September 2012, against Latif Mundy), we got a look at that strange judging it Atlantic City. One judge had you winning 100-90, giving you every round! Another judge scored it 95-95 a draw.”
Patrick Majewski: “Let them judge (the three judges). That was a hard fought bout which I won that night. Sometimes you have to leave it to the judges. It is what it is.”
Real Combat Media: In a ten round bout which goes to the scorecards, will the judges give you a decision over Curtis Stevens?”
Patrick Majewski: “You have to earn a decision. You have to be the boxer in a more busier place, throwing more punches. You’ve got to earn it! I’m always training, and I’m training to win.”
Real Combat Media: “Patrick do you feel comfortable at 160 pounds?”
Patrick Majewski: “I’m comfortable always at 160 pounds. I always take care of myself, I am always eating right. There’s no problem getting down to 160 pounds for me.”
Real Combat Media: “How do you feel about fighting on NBC Sports?”
Patrick Majewski: “That’s great exposure, and extra motivation. My name and face will be out there, (and hopefully) Polsat Poland television (will cover my bout) as well. My name is going to be out there.”
Real Combat Media: “Resorts Superstar Theatre is a small theatre to fight in. Are you good with it?”
Patrick Majewski: “I’m good with it. We are pros. Wherever they put the fight, we’ve (my corner and the Stevens camp have) got to adjust.”
Real Combat Media: “You have fought in some wars. Will Stevens fight a dirty fight?”
Patrick Majewski: “I’ve never seen him fight a dirty fight. But you know what? (As a fighter) You’ve got to be ready for everything.”
Real Combat Media: “Patrick, you have never had the privilege of fighting in Poland. Would you like to fight in Poland in 2014?”
Patrick Majewski: “One day, I have to fight in Poland. Of course, there was a boxing show on December 24th in Radom, Poland, my hometown, and it could have happened. It’s my time, though. I got the Stevens opportunity, and I was happy to take it.
Real Combat Media: “Global Boxing has been a great promotional group for you.”
Patrick Majewski: “Of course! Global Boxing has always worked for my best interests. I know we will make it happen.”
