On Saturday, November 9th two of the greatest fighter of all time will square off in the octagon live from Brazil. Dan” Hendo” Henderson will face off with” The Phenom” Vitor Belfort. These two warriors seem to be on different paths with Henderson coming off a couple of losses to Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans and Vitor on a four fight win streak. So does this fight even make sense for Vitor who is as close to a title shot as anyone in the UFC? It seems to me that Vitor has a lot more to lose then Henderson. On the other hand this fight makes perfect sense: you have two legends of the sport and future Hall of Famers going toe to toe.
Now before Dan injured his knee he was in training camp for a championship fight with Jon Jones. Since that time he has had two close fights with great opponents in Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida. At this point in Dan’s career, I do not see any chance of him winning the lightweight title. I think he would have a better shot if he were to drop back down to 185 and fight for a title shot there. He still has the skill to compete, I just don’t think the can hang with the top guys at 205. With his wrestling and of course, one shot knock out power, I am sure he would get a title shot at middleweight in short order. I for one would love to see him fight Anderson Silva again. Dan is a great wrestler that is as hard as anyone to get down and he has amazing power. Can he hang with Vitor? I think if Dan is going to win he has to come out and do what he did in the first fight between the two. That is take “The Phenom” down and use his wrestling to control and punish him.
As far as Vitor, what can you say but WOW! He has been the scariest guy in the UFC in his last few fights with his amazing transformation into what looks like an action figure. He has been mean, determined and just unstoppable. He has come closer then anyone to beating Light Heavyweight Kingpin Jon “Bones” Jones and has tore through everyone that he has faced since. Now I know a lot of people think he has been fighting in Brazil because of his TRT use but come on, he isn’t the only fighter that is using the stuff. He sells out arenas every time he fights in Brazil but it is convenient that he has been in his home country. I think Vitor will continue on his path of destruction as long as he can stay away from the” H Bomb” and the take downs and get in and out, being first on every exchange. I can’t wait for this fight guys. Two Icons of mixed martial arts, in the country that has so much history with the UFC. This is going to be a special fight ladies and gentlemen. Don’t miss it!
