TO HOST A NEW YORK MEDIA WORKOUT

NEW YORK (September 19, 2013) — No. 1 featherweight contender and boxing’s first openly gay fighter ORLANDO CRUZ (20-2-1, 10 KOs), of San Juan, Puerto Rico, will host a New York Media Workout, This Tuesday! September 24, at Mendez Boxing Gym (23 East 26th St — between 5th and Madison Aves. — New York, NY 10010), beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET. Interviews will take place before the workout.
Cruz is in his final weeks of intense training for his first world title shot. He will be battling former two-time featherweight champion Orlando “Siri” Salido (39-12-2, 27 KOs), of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, México, for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title on the Timothy Bradley vs. Juan Manuel Márquez WBO welterweight championship pay-per-view undercard. Bradley vs. Márquez will take place Saturday, October 12, at the Thomas & Mack Center, on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. It will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View®, beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT.
Cruz, a member of Puerto Rico’s 2000 Olympic team, has won half of his professional victories by way of knockout, including three of his last four fights — all for the WBO Latino featherweight belt — propelling him to the top of the WBO ratings. He enters this title tilt riding a two-year winning streak, highlighted by a first-round knockout of previously undefeated Michael Franco.
