July 22, 2013 Rochester, NY–    Hector Camacho Jr. will box Lee Murtagh on Thursday, August 8th in an 8 round main event at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY.

Camacho Jr, age 34, currently resides in Orlando, Florida.

He has an outstanding professional record of 56 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw with 1 no contest. He has scored 31 knockouts.

He stands 5’8” and his reach measures 69 inches.

He utilizes a southpaw style reminiscent of his late father, three-time world champion Hector “Macho” Camacho.

The (WBA) World Boxing Association ranked Camacho Jr. as its number 1 contender when he competed in the super lightweight division.

He gradually moved up in weight and in 2009 he defeated top ranked Israel Cardona to win the vacant (WBC) World Boxing Council “Caribbean Boxing Federation Light Middleweight title.”

Camacho Jr. was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in New York City. His young parents did not marry. He was raised in a two bedroom apartment in Spanish Harlem by his single mother, his grandmother and two aunts.

Camacho Jr. grew up admiring his dad and his fighting skills. He started to imitate him and became more interested in learning how to box than attending school.

When he was only eight years old he appeared on national television in a mock sparring session with his dad before his father’s world title defense against Edwin Rosario at Madison Square Garden. He wore a Puerto Rican flag outfit to the show that night.

Camacho Jr. won his first 32 pro fights before suffering a deep right eye cut caused from a clash of heads with former champion Jesse James Leija. The controversial ending was ruled a No Contest and interrupted his career momentum.  Two fights later he lost a unanimous decision to Omar Weiss.

He has beaten former world champions Philip Holiday and Luis “Yory Boy” Campas. The win over Campas was especially satisfying because Campas had held Camacho Jr’s. dad to a draw a few months before.

The Murtagh fight will be Camacho Jr’s third fight since the untimely shooting death of his father last November. He is riding a two fight win streak with both wins coming by way of knockout.

The 39 year old Murtagh is the reigning Light Middleweight Champion of Ireland. His current record is 33-14. He will be making his U.S. debut against Camacho Jr.

“I want that big (Murtagh) fight,” said Camacho Jr. “I know boxing has given me the opportunity a couple of times but I haven’t taken advantage of them. I can’t wait to fight in Rochester. A lot of great fighters passed through Rochester. It has a rich history of boxing and I’m glad to be a part of it.”
