Borgata Casino Gets Robbed, HBO Boxing Returns to Revel Atlantic City

Atlantic City (July 3rd, 2013)– Welterweight and light middleweight contender Demetrius Hopkins has fought fought main event bouts at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey: Demetrius fought Paul Delgado in August 2005; Ernesto Zapata in October 2005; and Michael Warrick in June 2006; and Enrique Colin in November 2007.

Demetrius Hopkins, 33, with a record of 33 wins, three losses and one draw, has fought his last three bouts in Atlantic City at Boardwalk Hall against Kendall Holt, Joshua Snyder and Charles Whittaker. Boardwalk Hall and the new Revel Casino just might be a safer bet, all things considered, depending upon the stakes involved.

On Monday, July 2, 2013, at 8:45 P.M., three brazen burglars cased The Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City of $200,000 in his and her Rolex watches in a brazen frontal glass showcase smash-and-grab, and escaped after fleeing the building in a dark colored vehicle with no license plates, in the midst of Borgata Casino’s tenth anniversary celebration and crowds of people.

The security bungle has to be one of the worst in Atlantic City history, and fighters and spectators might be safer in Atlantic City inside the boxing ring rather than the casinos if the city cannot put itself back together. The Borgata Hotel and Casino has 2000 guest rooms and suites, around 200 gaming tables and over 3400 slot machines.

Atlantic City’s next boxing event this summer will be at the new Revel Casino in Atlantic City, televised live on Home Box Office HBO Boxing After Dark and Australia Main Event television on Saturday, August 17, 2013. This will be the first professional boxing event to be staged at Revel, co-promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions, Gary Shaw Promotions, Bill Treacy’s Grange Old School Boxing, and Eddie Hearns Matchroom Boxing.

International Boxing Federation World Middleweight champion Daniel Geale, 29-1, New South Wales, Australia, will face 25-1 Darren Barker of London, United Kingdom, in his fifth IBF title bout and fourth title defense. Jonathan Romero, 23-0, Cali, Columbia, will also appear, making the first defense of his IBF Bantamweight title against 28-4 challenger Kiko Martinez of Valenciana, Spain. Welterweight Thomas Dolorme, 18-1, Carolina, Puerto Rico, will also appear on the card in a ten rounder against an opponent to be named later. Promoter Russell Peltz will stage the second Atlantic City boxing event of the summer at Bally’s Event Center on Saturday August 24, 2013, featuring super featherweight contender Teon Kennedy versus Joselito Collado in a ten rounder in the main event of a scheduled seven bout card at Bally’s Hotel and Casino.

As for The Borgata Hotel, it would appear boxing events, which were staged at the Borgata Casino in the past, will be not scheduled at The Borgata in the near future. While Monday’s burglars were not armed, Borgata security needs improvement.
