Teon Kennedy Wins Ten Round War Over Carlos Vinan in Atlantic City!

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Correspondent- Ringside

Newark, NJ (June 4th,2013)– Fighting for the first time in a year, super bantamweight Teon Kennedy of Philadelphia returned at junior lightweight and won a hard fought ten round decision over rough tough Carlos Vinan, an Ecuadorian fighting out of Newark, New Jersey, in the main event of a seven bout card at Bally’s Hotel Casino promoted by Peltz Promotions.

Kennedy, now 18-2-2 with seven knockouts, fighting in the wrong weight class when he should be a super bantamweight or featherweight, tried to end the show in the early rounds with some wild haymakers which went wide, but eventually settled down to start winning rounds on technical jabbing ability. Vinan, now 10-10-5 with two knockouts, has a deceiving record. Coming off a draw with undefeated Wanzell Ellison, Vinan trained hard for this bout and tried to win. Trouble is, Vinan only knows one way to fight, by coming forward carefully, putting on pressure, and trying to cut off the ring while getting inside.

Kennedy learned soon enough to stay outside and work with his jab out of Vinan’s range, and not slug it out with the shorter wily Vinan, who was ‘in the house’ for all ten rounds, but just could not get inside to land any counter punches of substance or get anything going. Vinan walked Kennedy down for nine rounds to no avail. Finally, late in the tenth round, Kennedy got off crisp body shots followed by crisp head jabs, and Vinan wilted to the canvas. Vinan beat the count, and bravely fought his way to the final bell when he looked almost finished. Give Vinan credit for guts if nothing else.

Promoter Russell Peltz must be aware Kennedy is a far more effective fighter as a super bantamweight and featherweight. Teon must have the discipline to get his weight down to super bantamweight where he is most effective. A solid comeback for Kennedy, who should fight regularly again as he works his weight downward.
