Yuri Foreman is Still Alive, Wins on SportsNet

New York, NY (April 5th, 2013)– In the main event of a SportsNet nine bout card at Roseland Ballroom in New York City televised on tape delay on Thursday night, April 4, 2013, promoted by Lou DiBella Entertainment, former World Boxing Association Junior Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman won his second comeback bout in three months, with a six round unanimous decision over a much shorter opponent, Gundrick King.
Unlike his January 23, 2013, six round victory over Brandon Baue, Foreman had no protective brace on his right knee on this occasion. Foreman at 5’11” towered over the 5’2″ King, but King maintained one advantage which kept him in the fight. King, a former University of North Alabama running back, has massive thighs, and his sturdy and steady legs carried him through the six round bout virtually unscathed.
Foreman, a Belarus fighter now out of Brooklyn, New York, appeared most interested in getting in some quality work, and King, now 18-9, 11 knockouts, provided some competition. The ring was not cut off, and both men went around in circles like a spinning wheel. The midweek crowd was mostly gone by the time the main event went off around 11 P.M. E.S.T., but some diehard boxing fans remained on hand to cheer for the ex-champion as he continues his comeback.
Foreman, his legs good, simply used rapid speed jab to keep King at arm’s length away. King had a decent defense, but at nine inches shorter, was unable to get inside and hit Foreman for any reason, and so tried to keep moving for the duration. Foreman is now 30-2 with eight knockouts, while Gundrick King falls to 18-9, 11 knockouts, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. 16 of King’s wins have been over opposition with losing records. At the ‘A’ level, King has been unable to overcome his height disparity versus his taller opponents. Foreman stated after this bout he was ready to step up to an eight or ten round bout in his next fight.
