Eight Questions for Eight Rounds

Farah Ennis vs. Francisco Sierra

Super Middleweights

ESPN “Friday Night Fights”

Farah Ennis provides the fans with a little insight into his fight on ESPN this Friday:

Q One: Why and when did you start boxing?

A: My dad and brother were fighters. It’s in the Ennis blood.

Q Two: What was your amateur record?

A: I didn’t have a lot. But being around my family, it seemed that I grew up in boxing.

Q Three: What do you believe are the qualities you possess in the ring to help you achieve success against the best talent in the world?

A: I believe I’ve got good punching and boxing skills with a solid defense.

Q Four: Whom have you fought, or worked with, that makes you believe you have what it takes to get to the top?

A: I’ve been in camp with Sakio Bika and Gennady Golovkin, which was great sparring and learning experience.

Q Five: In 2011, you fought and lost to the then undefeated Alexander Johnson. Short and sweet, what happened?

A: Sometimes you make decisions for the fans, even when its against your own best interest, and for the week leading into the fight I caught the flu, but decided to press on. It was a lesson learned that cost me an “L” on my record.

Q Six: Tell the fans what type of fighter Francisco Sierra is and why many in our sport believe he is a gatekeeper for fighters wanting to take the next step towards the top? What do you believe you can do against Sierra in your ESPN televised fight?

A: He’s a rough and very experienced fighter. I hear many are picking him to beat me. All I can say, I’m in great shape and you will see Friday night.

Q Seven: Two other questions. There are some big 168-pound matches coming up on HBO next month, Mikkel Kessler vs. Carl Froch, and Lucien Bute vs. Jean Pascal. First, give the fans on which you pick to win those bouts? And who would you pick if the two winners than fought each other?

A: Both of these fights, in my eyes, will be determined on who wants it more will win. At this level you can’t underestimate any fighter.

Q Eight: If you were successful in beating Sierra on Friday, whom would you like to fight next?

A: Sierra is first. After that, I leave it to my promoter and management to move me in the right direction towards a world title.
