Gdansk, Poland (February 23, 2013)– In a brutal heavyweight slugfest on an all-Polish fight card at Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland televised on Polsat.TV pay-per-view, heavyweight Przemyslaw Saleta came back impressively and put away the heavily favored Andrew Golota in the sixth round after slugging it out in center ring in rounds four and five. Saleta surprisingly appeared to be the better prepared of the two ring dinosaurs, despite his seven years of inactivity to Golota’s four.  Saleta is still an active and respected professional kick boxer and Mixed Martial Artist, so he is not really inactive, a fact probably overlooked by an overconfident Golota, The first two rounds were an even slug out, with both fighters trading jabs and power shots. But in round three, Saleta exposed Golota as a spent fighter, and all Golota could do to stay on his feet was take a brutal battering or keep spitting out his mouthpiece, which cost him a point.

In the end, Saleta landed numerous unanswered horrific and brutal power shots with both hands on a washed up Golota, forcing Golota to keep spitting out his mouthpiece to buy time again, but it was not enough. Saleta finally sent Golota down and out to the canvas with a left hand with Golota walking in, and knocked him out, solidly ending Golota’s career.  Saleta, a former European Heavyweight champion from Warsaw, Poland, is now 44-7, 21 knockouts. Golota, whose defense and guard were far from his former self, falls to 41-9-1 with 33 knockouts.

Golota, whose last win was over five years ago, and who showed nothing in his last ring appearance, a four round stoppage by Tomasz Adamek in Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland, in October 2009, showed even less against Saleta, though he did try hard in rounds one, two, four and five. After participating in one too many ring wars, the remainder of Golota’s soul punched with what was left and folded, just a tired old man with nothing left in the tank, not even a six round fighter. Golota attempted to slug it out, but after taking too many beatings, lost to father time. It was a sad end to such a respected fighter who seemed to be winning both of his bouts with former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe, but got disqualified for low blows both times.
