Adama Interview: Golovkin is Afraid of Me!
By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent
Middleweight contender Osumanu Adama of Accra, Ghana, in an exclusive interview with Real Combat Media, discussed his upcoming fight plans. Adama, now fighting out of Joliet, Illinois, will return to the ring in a tune up bout in Lowell, Massachusetts, in the co-main event on Saturday, March 16, 2013, as Tsonga Center of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Adama, now 20-3, with 15 knockouts, last fought on March 7, 2013, when he lost a close 12 round decision in Tasmania, Australia, to International Boxing Federation World Middleweight champion Daniel Geale.
RCM: “Were you preparing for a World Boxing Association title fight?”
Osumanu Adama: “I was preparing and training hard to fight Gennady Golovkin for the WBA and IBO world titles. It was close to happening, and then the Golovkin people decided to fight Nobuhiro Ishida, the guy from Japan, because they just want to play with fire. Because they know I am gonna take the belts away from Golovkin.”
RCM: “Do you still want to fight Golovkin in 2013?”
Osumanu Adama: “I still want to fight Golovkin after his next opponent anyway, so I want do whatever has to be done to get Gennady Golovkin into the ring with me.”
RCM: “You are in training camp now with fellow middleweight contender Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam of France.”
Osumanu Adama: “We are sparring together, running, physical exercise, speed, work, strength work, working through the same things in the gym together.”
RCM: “What work has your trainer Joseph Awinongya done to make corrections for the left hands flaws of Hassan N’dam N’Jikam in your training camp?”
Osumanu Adama: “Our trainer Joseph Awinongya has made left hand defensive corrections with Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam. Hassan and I are in camp and spar together. Joseph is working on Hassan’s left hand so the hand can be strong, so we use (train with) a sledge hammer.”
RCM: “Is sparring mutually beneficial to you and Hassan?”
Osumanu Adama: “In the same gym we challenge each. We both want to be world champions so we work hard.”
RCM: “Is it possible N’Jikam will also fight on the Lowell card in Massachusetts?”
Osumanu Adama: “I don’t know yet. I don’t know his plans.”
RCM: “Osumanu, any other noted fighters in the gym with you in Joliet?”
Osumanu Adama: “Yes. The Chicago Golden Gloves champion at 154 pounds, Terou Sharpe of Joliet, who’s training for his professional debut. Also Daniel Allotey, 14-3-2, a super middleweight from Ghana.”
RCM: “N’Jikam has a mandatory rematch with Peter Quillin. If he does not fight Quillin next after Fernando Guerrero, would you fight Quillin?”
Osumanu Adama: “Yeah, so much, we’re looking for that fight. Quillin would be so much easier for me to fight than Golovkin.. Thisa is because Golovkin is a very strong fighter.”
RCM:“Why is Golovkin more difficult? What attributes do you possess to beat Golovkin?”
Osumanu Adama: “I’m a much faster fighter than Golovkin, with better lateral movement. I am strong too. Only the strong survive with Golovkin.”
RCM: “Osumanu, you have been inactive for a year. What are your plans to stay busy in 2013?”
Osumanu Adama: “I would like to fight four or five times in 2013, so I can bein top condition. I’m always in top condition, this is what I do.”
RCM: “Will your bout this March be in broadcast on television in Ghana?”
Osumanu Adama: “We’re working on that. I would like my fights to be (broadcast) on television all over the world.”
RCM: “What is your current weight?”
Osumanu Adama: “174. After a training camp, my weight is at 168 pounds. I get down to 160 before a fight, I am used to it every time. This is the way I am every fight, I’ll lose eight pounds right before a fight.”
RCM: “Osumanu, what are your immediate fight goals?”
Osumanu Adama: “I want to fight the WBA and WBO champions, Golovkin and Quillin right now. And if anybody calls me out, I’ll fight anybody.”
RCM: “Would you fight Daniel Geale again?”
“I’d love to fight Daniel Geale again, but not in Australia again. My eyes were blurring after the second round with Geale. I never felt this way in the ring in my life. I think they (Geale’s corner) know something about the coagulant which caused my eye distress. Fight me in the (United) States, Daniel Geale, show me you’re a real champion.”
RCM: “Thank you and best of luck to you and your manager and promoter, Cynthia and Wasfi Tolaymat of Chicago Fight Promotion, with your bout and their boxing card in March.”

Talk is cheap. This guy has three losses and couldn’t even beat Geale. Are we to really believe he’d last 6 rounds with Golovkin?
