Allentown Card Still On Despite Winter Storm Nemo
By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent
Allentown, PA (February 9th, 2013)– In an exclusive interview with Real Combat Media, Marshall Kauffman, President and CEO of King’s Promotions, announced his Saturday evening fight card at The Rodeway Inn in Allentown, Pennsylvania, will go off as scheduled despite the presence of Winter Storm Nemo, which has blanketed the Northeast with snow.
According to Kauffman “You have to deal with it all in this business.” Temperature in Allentown will drop to 12 degrees Fahrenheit but no snow on Saturday night.
Six bouts are scheduled on Kauffman’s card. Kauffman discussed the participants.
“Frank Santos De Alba, one of our King’s Promotions fighters, will fight Isaac Suarez in a six rounder. De Alba is a slick super featherweight southpaw, a good boxer and a power puncher. It is a good fight for him. I think he will rise to the occasion and step up to these guys. Our middleweight fighter, Greyson Blake, is fighting John Thompson in a six rounder. John Thompson belongs to Greg Cohen Promotions. Heavyweight William Miranda will fight a six rounder against Aaron Kinch.” Real Combat Media covered the six rounder Kinch lost to Tyyab Beale in Newark in January 2013, and considers Miranda versus Kinch a very close match.
In the main event, King’s Promotions light middleweight Keenan Collins battles George Rivera in an eight rounder. The bout is a rematch of their eight round split decision draw in Reading, Pennsylvania this past April 2012. One judge gave Collins all eight rounds in the first bout, while another saw it 77-75 for Rivera. A third judge had it 76-76 a draw.
“I strongly feel Collins can win, I feel come fight night Collins will be the better fighter. He’s been in with better opposition. I think it is a great fight. I think every fight on the card is a great pick up fight, you don’t know who will win. Flip a coin (to determine the winner of any bout). This is one of my best cards in a long time.”
Other bouts include two 4 rounders featuring heavyweights Mark Rideout and Eric Newell, and lightweights Samuel Omar Quinones Jr. versus Charles Mack.
Doors open 6:15 P.M., with the first bout at 7:15 P.M. Tickets are $65 ringside and $40 general admission at the door, but less if purchased in advance. For tickets and more information, contact Marshall Kauffman at 610-587-5950 or tickets can be purchased at the Rodeway Inn Ballroom door. Online informaion about the card is at Kingsboxing.com. Kauffman’s next card will be held on March 26, 2013, at the Valley Forge Convention Center in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and will feature 9-0 lightweight prospect Naim Nelson of Philadelphia in the main event in an eight rounder against 12-4 Georgi Kevlishvili, a Soviet Georgian fighter now out of Philadelphia. Marshall’s son Travis Kauffman fights next week in Memphis, Tennessee in a bout which does not yet appear on BoxRec.
