Wild Weigh-In Stare Down by Bryant And Ganglemi!
By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent
New York, NY (January 31, 2012)
Every boxing fan likes a good press conference and in the ring stare down.
At the official weigh-in proceedings of the New York State Athletic Commission on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, for Greg Cohen Promotions six bout boxing card on Staten Island, Thursday January 31, 2013, all of the fighters who arrived at the weigh-in made weight and the brief hellos went off without a hitch.
One face to face confrontation was noteworthy, however-the stare down between the two fighters who will open the card. Junior middleweights Willie Bryant of Conway, Arkansas, and debuting Anthony Ganglemi of Mine Hill, New Jersey. Bryant gave Ganglemi the ‘look’ and the stare down began. Ganglemi stared right back and was not intimidated. There might be ‘game’ in the opening bout, which many fans miss.
Ganglemi won the New Jersey Golden Gloves championship in the 152 pound open class in 2009, 2011, and 2012. Ganglemi was also New Jersey State champion in the 152 pound open class in 2009 and 2011. Ganglemi will fight Bryant, who is 1-5-1 with one knockout, in an opening bout four rounder. If the stare down is any indicator, someone will be knocked out, and it figures to be Bryant, given Ganglemi’s experience. Pro debuts can be tricky, though, and if Bryant is cagey, he might survive the encounter by the sin of his teeth by holding on for dear life. Judging by the stare down, Ganglemi’s visit to the ring won’t be a social call.
