Ronny Rios VS. Rico Ramos: Recap
By: Eliezer Garcia
Santa Ana, CA (January, 12, 2013)–On the doubleheader that was featured on the first night of a free preview weekend on Showtime, which continues tomorrow Sun Jan 13.
Rios won his first SHO BOX debut and the biggest fight of his career by the score of 100-90, 97-93, 96-94. Ronny Rios, 22 (20-0, 9KO’s) of Santa Ana, California, remained undefeated and captured the vacant NABF Featherweight with a 10 round unanimous decision over former WBA Super Bantamweight World Champion Rico Ramos.
Rios came in strong in the first half of the fight applying pressure and going down to the body early. Landing a good a mount of devastating right hands and allowing Rico to come in and be countered. During the second half of the fight Rico started landing straight right hands that momentary rock Rios back. There was a shift in the air as Rios looked as if he was beginning to fade and had a hard time handling Rico’s combinations.
Rios managed to pull the clutch in the last two rounds and kept Ramos off balance. Although the scorecards had Rios up by a high margin, the fight was a lot closer then what the judges had on their scorecards. Rios gave some rounds away and allowed Rico to steal away a few of the last rounds.
Both, Ramos and Rios showed us that they are top competitive prospect fighters and they have a lot more is much more to show us.
Daquan Arnett (10-0) defeated Brandon Quarles (10-1-1, 2 KO) by a UD in what many fans considered a boring fight.
