Chop Chop Corley TKOs Danny Garcia, Judah Fight Postponed
By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent
New York, NY (January 28th, 2013)–Former World Boxing Organization Junior Welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley, who won the NABF Light Welterweight title by decisioning unbeaten Gabriel Tito Bracero over ten rounds, and who stopped 23-1 Paul McCloskey in the tenth round, both wins in 2012, has scored the biggest upset of his career in 2013.
Corley stopped defending Light Welterweight World Boxing Association Super champion and World Boxing Council champion Danny Garcia by breaking his rib.
In the process, the victory, which occurred not in a title bout but in a sparring session on January 19, 2013, kayoed the title bout between Garcia and former world titleholder Zab Judah at Barclays Center in Brooklyn scheduled for February 9, 2013, before the main event between Tavoris Cloud and Bernard Hopkins.
Trash talk from Judah aside, neither Judah nor interim WBC champion Lucas Matthysse had any idea in Las Vegas last weekend on January 25 where Matthysse kayoed Mike Dallas Jr., that Garcia-Judah would be postponed. Matthysse had spoken of his hope of fighting the winner of Garcia-Judah after his bout.
Chop-Chop Corley, a 38 year old southpaw with 59 bouts of experience, lived up to his reputation in the ‘sixtieth’ bout. Chop-Chop goes the boxing card, or as the old–timers still say, pop goes the weasel. Golden Boy promoter Richard Schaeffer has stated the Barclays Center card will most likely be rescheduled for April 27, 2013.
