Andre Rozier Speaks on Dominguez, Jacobs, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and More

By: Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent

New York, NY (December 7, 2012) See at far right in the photo, trainer, adviser, spiritual leader, and cornerman of Havoc Boxing Promotions, and the President and founder of Havoc Boxing Gear, Andre Rozier is today one of the most familiar faces to boxing fight fans in the Northeastern United States. He frequently plies his craft on international television as well. Andre was seen on pay-per-view most recently working the corner of middleweight contender Danny Jacobs on the preliminary bout to the main event before the Austin Trout versus Miguel Cotto WBA light middleweight world title main event at Barclay’s Arena in Brooklyn.

The Havoc Boxing Store is on the internet at http://www.havocboxingnyc.com/?page_id=695

Real Combat Media: “Your 11-0 junior featherweight prospect, Juan ‘Baby Tito’ Dominguez, will be fighting the main event of your Havoc boxing card at Resorts Casino Aqueduct Raceway on Saturday December 8, 2012,  at 122 pounds, versus John Alberto Molina.”

Andre Rozier: “The fight was just shortened from ten rounds to eight rounds.”

Real Combat Media: “Can Baby Tito win a world title?”

Andre Rozier: “I think he can. We’ve been working on his punching technique, and we’ve had good sparring with Havoc featherweight Joselito Collado.”

Real Combat Media: “Molina is a step up fight. The Columbian has fought in WBC and NABA regional title fights this year. Molina has 56 fights, with a record of  32-21-3 with 20 knockouts. Baby Tito has only 11 fights. Are you moving Baby Tito up too soon?”

Andre Rozier: “No. This is a perfect time for Dominguez to show his maturity in the ring.”

Real Combat Media: “Are you interested in the winner of the WBO Super Bamtamweight title fight between Nonito Donaire and Jorge Arce?”

Andre Rozier: “Dominguez is not ready for that fight yet.”

Real Combat Media: “What about Baby Tito fighting for the vacant USBA title?”

Andre Rozier: “Dominguez needs a little more seasoning  (experience). When he’s about 15-0 we’ll go for the USBA title, and we’ll rock and roll.”

Real Combat Media: “Who is training Juan Dominguez now?”

Andre Rozier: “Gary Stark and myself.”

Real Combat Media: “Do You think Dominguez is a future world champion?”

Andre Rozier: “I think Dominguez will be a world champion. He is a fantastic athlete. He can punch, he can box, he’s durable, and he has the heart of a lion.”

Real Combat Media: “What other fighters are you working with now?”

Andre Rozier: “I have light heavyweight Marcus Browne, who will be fighting on December 15 in California. This is his second pro fight. I have 15-0 welterweight Sadam Ali. I also train middleweight Danny Jacobs (Jacobs is with Al Hayman Management, not Havoc Boxing, for purposes of clarification).”

Real Combat Media: “Do you think Sadam Ali or Gariel Bracero could wind up with a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013?”

Andre Rozier: “I think it will be Floyd versus Robert Guerrero. Guerrero is a legitimate welterweight champion, he comes to fight, he puts on a perfect performance. Guerrero will counter punch Floyd and make a fight of it. Guerrero will make the bout exciting because he’s going to try to win. It’s going to take a monumental effort for Guerrero to beat Floyd. In reality, Floyd is not a 154 pounder, he’s a natural 147 pound welterweight.”

Real Combat Media: Wouldn’t Floyd prefer to fight Canelo Alvarez at 154?”

Andre Rozier: everyone wants to see Floyd versus Manny Pacquiao, a potential event that’s been dragged through the mud, and remains dead in the water. The winner of Austin Trout (WBA light middleweight champion)versus Canelo Alvarez (the WBC light middleweight champion) is a next possibility for Floyd, but I believe Floyd will explore the welterweight waters more.”

Real Combat Media: “What about Floyd versus WBO Welterweight champion Timothy Bradley? That would be 43-0 (Floyd) versus 29-0 (Bradley).”

Andre Rozier: “It definitely could be a possibility, but Bradley doesn’t have drawing power yet.

Real Comat Media: “What world champions have you trained, Andre?”

Andre Rozier: “Two, Luis Collazo and Travis Simms. Our welterweight Luis Collazo more than likely will be fighting at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn in February 2013.”

Real Combat Media: “Tell me about Havoc Promotions cruiserweight Santander Silgado (23-0) of Columbia, who will be fighting for the vacant WBA world cruiserweight title against Denis Lebedev (24-1) this month in Russia.”

Andre Rozier: “To win, Silgado has to be the busier fighter, and make the bout more exciting. Silgado has to work a bit more in the ring. He can definitely win. But will Silgado win? We shall see soon. his trainer Guzman Sr., assistant trainer Guzman Jr., and Havoc official Ray Campbell will be traveling to the Russian Federation for Silgado’s title bout . Silgado’s cut man will be Danny Malano, better known as the cutman of Tomas Adamek, Andre Berto and other top fighters.”

Real Combat Media: Andre, this Saturday will be Havoc Promotions second boxing show at Resort Casino Aqueduct Raceway. Do you like this venue?”

Andre Rozier: “I like Resorts Casino Aqueduct Raceway. As a place to stage boxing shows it’s a great place. The only problem in the boxing show area is there’s too many (structural) pillars. You cannot do television there because you cannot get the aerial lights around the columns. I like Aviator Arena in Brooklyn best of all, as it’s spacing is wide open and high, and parking is free and there’s plenty of it. Barclay’s Arena, the new sports arena in Brooklyn is a beautiful place, the problem is there’s not enough parking. I think Barclay’s Arena holds 18,000 people, which means a lot of cars.”

Real Combat Media: “Andre, you appeared on television last week in the corner of middleweight Daniel Jacobs. Tell the REAL story of Daniel Jacobs’ illness and comeback attempt.”

Andre Rozier:” Jacobs had a cancerous tumor surrounding his spine. It was removed by surgery. Jacobs rehabilitation involved reminding the nerves what they had done (before the operation), as the nerves were in shock, and Jacobs had lost the use of his legs after the surgery. His rehabilitation lasted almost one year. At the hospital after surgery, Jacobs was upbeat and told me ‘I am gonna walk again’ and he did. For Daniel Jacobs, even being able to walk again is an accomplishment.”

Real Combat Media: “Didn’t you weigh whether or not you were taking a big chance and took much risk (after Jacobs survived his cancer surgery and completed his rehabilitation successfully) by putting Jacobs back into the boxing ring against veteran middleweight Irish Chris Fitzpatrick at the Barclay’s Center?”

Andre Rozier: “I monitored Jacobs during training. He was prepared for the Fitzpatrick bout ( a cut and battered Fitzpatrick gave up on his stool after the fifth round). I ahd no worries about that. For now, we’re sort of cruising with Jacobs at 160 pounds. Jacobs has expressed at interest of fighting at 154 pounds. Jacobs entered the ring for Fitzpatrick at 160 1/4, barely at the 160 pound middleweight minimum weight requirement. Jacobs at light middleweight? You can never tell. Let’s see what happens.”

Reader’s Note: Middleweight contender Daniel Jacobs of Brooklyn (24-1) will return to the ring in a bout at Barclay’s Center scheduled for February 9, 2012.

Real Combat Media: “Andre, Thank you for sharing your boxing activities and thoughts with Real Combat Media.”

Andre Rozier: “Hope to see you and Real Combat Media at the boxing show this Saturday night!”

Reader’s Note: Andre Rozier will appear in the corner of junior featherweight prospect Juan Dominguez at Resorts Casino Aqueduct Raceway, 110-00 Rockaway Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens, New York, on Saturday, December 8, 2012,  as New Legend Boxing, Old World Boxing, and W.O.N. Promotions present International Fight Night, with ten bouts on the card. The first bout will begin at 6 P.M.

Heavyweight Vincent Maddalone will be in the main event bout against Byron Polley. The card also features the professional debuts of Bryant Cruz and Rob Garris. For tickets and more information on the boxing card go to the Resorts website online at http://www.rwnewyork.com/entertainment
