Last night in front of his hometown Nottingham crowd, Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch completely walked through his outmatched opponent Yusaf Mack in 3 simple rounds. This fight was a disappointment from the day it was announced due to the one-sided nature of the affair.

However, we cannot be harsh on Froch as he has completely spoilt us for his eight previous fights which have all been against top-class opposition. Considering the fact that no doubt he will have at least two big fights in 2013 it would unfair to say he should not be allowed a tune-up.

The performance from Mack was quite inadequate and much less than I expected. It was quite clear to me that he would not stand much of a chance. However, I did believe he would last longer than he did and not only that he would enjoy a reasonable tear-up in parts and possibly have his moments at times.

This was not the case, the American was stiff, slow and unable to hit or avoid being hit. He will have to regroup and get back to winning convincingly should he wish to have another shot at glory.

Froch’s brilliant win and ability to his Mack almost at will was due to the difference in skill. However, his performance last night was not entirely impressive as he was not at his best in my opinion. It was quite clear that the KO would come soon following the first round. I believe Froch was too eager to end the bout and tried to force it when it was not necessary.

He was coming in really close to Mack and slightly smothering his own work. Because of this, Froch was struggling to throw accurate shots. If he would have created cleaner angles for his punches, I believe the contest would have ended much earlier.

Not to place too much criticism on Britain’s great champion, he was still able to finish his opponent and dominate the contest. If Froch does wish to rematch Mikkel Kessler in the future, he must ensure that his offense is more refined and tactically perfect.
