Frankie Edgar moves down to 145 – Nate Diaz vs. Ben Henderson on Fox 5

By: Anthony L. Gonzalez

According to last night’s announcement by Ariel Helwani on UFC Fuel Tonight, Frankie Edgar has decided to go down to the 145lb weight class. Frankie did a great job at 155, but his last controversial loss to Ben Henderson made the journey to the UFC title a lot more difficult. Many felt he had won his last fight, but the Nevada judges ruled in favor of Ben Henderson. Nate Diaz was granted the next title shot at the UFC Fox 5 event on December 8th in Seattle. The New Jersey native is (14-3-1) at 155lbs and has held the UFC title with notable victories over BJ Penn and Grey Maynard.

At the UFC 150 post press conference, Dana White mentioned that Edgar may have to fight once at 145 to get a shot at the title against the Brazilian champ Jose Aldo. Edgar’s possible opponents for his first match at 145 are Korean Zombie, Dustin Poirier and Chad Mendes.

Here is what Jose Aldo said about Frankie Edgar’s move to 145, “He has said he wants to get down to the feathers, so hopefully that happens soon to end. He is welcome in the category so that we banish him to the category above or below.”
