Arthur Abraham wins the WBO Title over Robert Stieglitz
By: Travis Kennedy
Arthur Abraham claimed the WBO Super Middleweight title after a unanimous decision win over German Robert Stieglitz on Saturday night. This fight was very competitive and Stieglitz was not outclassed by any means. Stieglitz started strong and was actually up on the scorecards after three rounds. He was able to trap Abraham against the ropes twice in the second round, and after the third round appeared he may be on his way to victory. Abraham though had other plans. In the fourth round he was able to make some adjustments and land some hard shots that left Stieglitz with a cut, and swelling above his left eye. From the fourth round on, it was pretty much all Abraham. He was able to box a smart fight and avoid any serious punishment. Stieglitz fought triumphantly until the final bell, but had not done enough to secure a victory. The official scores were 116-112 twice, and the third judge scored the bout 115-113 all in favor of Arthur Abraham. With the win Abraham is now 35-3(27) while Robert Stieglitz falls to 42-3(23).
Abraham showed his ability to make adjustments during the fight and stick to his game- plan down the stretch. With this win Abraham will try to secure his next fight with WBA Super Middleweight title holder Felix Sturm, or Australian Daniel Geale who is the current IBF middleweight world champion. These two men face off against each other on September 1st and I’m sure Arthur Abraham will be watching very closely hoping to fight the winner. Abraham has announced he is planning his next bout for December 15th in Nuremberg Germany.
